Palatine
Palatine is a canon rank, detailed here on Lexicanum. This article provides additional fanon details and specifics about their role in the Daughters of Verity.
Palatine is a title used in many Orders of the Adepta Sororitas, referring to a high-ranking member. In the Daughters of Verity the title is given to one of the twelve inner circle of advisers to the Canoness. The best-known Palatine of the Daughters is Alicia Laertes.
Qualifications
In theory, any member of the Order (even Novices) may be appointed to the rank of Palatine. In practice, only professed members are appointed and usually only senior and highly-experienced ones. The single exception is Alicia Laertes, who was raised from Novice to Professed and appointed Palatine in a single instant by the acclamation of the Order.
Appointment
A Palatine is elected to the position for life by a conclave of the whole Order on the death of a previous Palatine or the elevation of a Palatine to Canoness (thus opening a seat on the council of twelve).
Duties
Palatines advise the Canoness, minister to the spiritual needs of Order members and function as military commanders on campaign.
Accoutrements & Equipment
Palatines are permitted to wear a fur-trimmed cloak in addition to their habit and armor.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
No Palatine has ever been removed from office, so no formal process of removal or impeachment exists.
