The Southern Reach
The Southern Reach had a troubled past, with the impacts of both the Gnomish and Halfling civilizations still present in the area. The Gnomish city of Guthorven was bustling with activity, bustling bazaars and markets that catered to all the needs of the inhabitants. Meanwhile the Halfling settlement of Amberbottom was peaceful and serene, its inhabitants content to live their lives in the wooded countryside without grand plans of conquest.
The peace of the Southern Reach was tested when the Dark Army marched towards the lands. The farmers and small settlements that dotted the hills were the first to be victims of their wrath. The South was laid to waste under their bloody path, leaving homes destroyed and villages extinct. The greater Gnomish and Halfling cities were spared the initial brunt of the destruction, but the news of the fate of their neighbours still sent shivers across all who spoke of it.
For years, the Southern Reach lay in ruins, with the once vibrant and bustling lands now littered with the remnants of the the destroyed villages. No one dared venture beyond the walls of their respective cities, leaving the destruction to wallow in the silence that suffocated the air.
Slowly but surely the Southern Reach was becoming a safer place, and with time, it had gotten safer still. People from all walks of life, both from the Gnomish and Halfling settlements, returned to the land, bringing with them a new optimism that the sun would one day soon shine upon the Southern Reach again.
The Southern Reach is still troubled, and the lands are still covered in scars and ruins of its checkered past. But the hearts of the citizens of the South rise in hope that the Southern Reach will one day be as it once was - a land of beauty and peace.
