Layer 222 - Shedaklah
Shedaklah, or the Rotting Plain, is a layer of The Abyss that is dominated by decay and putrefaction. The ground is a fetid mass of rotting vegetation, and the air is thick with the stench of decay. The sky is a sickly yellow-green color, and strange, grotesque creatures lurk in the shadows, feeding on the decay and corruption that permeates the layer.
At the heart of the Rotting Plain lies the domain of Juiblex, the Faceless Lord, and Zuggtmoy, the Demon Queen of Fungi. These two demon lords have a tenuous alliance, each ruling over different aspects of the layer but united in their love of decay and corruption.
Juiblex's domain is a vast, underground realm of slime and ooze, where his amorphous form can flow and expand without restraint. His minions are a motley collection of oozes, slimes, and other creatures that thrive in the damp darkness of his domain. Juiblex is a capricious and unpredictable demon lord, and his motivations are often inscrutable. Some say that he seeks to spread his slimy influence to other layers of The Abyss, while others believe that he is simply content to bask in the putrid glory of his own domain.
Zuggtmoy's domain, on the other hand, is a sprawling jungle of fungi and mold, where her fungal minions grow and spread. Her followers are a mix of demons and fungi, and they are fiercely devoted to their queen. Zuggtmoy is a master of corruption and decay, and she delights in transforming living creatures into fungal monstrosities. She sees herself as a goddess of fertility and growth, but her methods are twisted and perverse.
The denizens of the Rotting Plain are as diverse as the fungi and oozes that inhabit the layer. There are those who are drawn to the power of Juiblex and Zuggtmoy, seeking to curry favor with the demon lords and rise through the ranks of their minions. Others are creatures who have been twisted and corrupted by the layer's putrefaction, their bodies warped and mutated by the foul energy that permeates the plane.
Travelers who venture into the Rotting Plain must be careful, for the layer is treacherous and full of hidden dangers. The ground is slick with slime and ooze, and the air is thick with spores and other noxious substances. Those who are unprepared or unwary can quickly find themselves trapped in the layer, their bodies slowly consumed by the rot and decay.
