Aven Crum

Aven Crum is a long, narrow lake at the foot of the Crommog. It is fed by the Tenneril River, to the west; to the east, a narrower continuation of the Tenneril leads to Malfa. The Hewellen, who created the eastern branch of the Tenneril, call it the Sluice.   Aven Crum in its current form was created eighty years ago, when a highly destructive storm caused much of the headlands on the Crommog's flank to collapse. The lake is now much larger and lower than it was. This led to the explosive growth of the newer town Bal Mallard, at the mouth of the Sluice, as trade with Malfa got much easier due to the deeper water.   A high waterway called the Sliver leads from Aven Crum into the Forges, the mountain range beyond the Crommog. The first part of the Sliver is only navigable by funicular barge, in a system that is partly magical (and was devised by the Hewellen). The barge passes the village of Glannock, which is the remnant of a much larger town that used to be the trading centre on the lake. Parts of Glannock fell into the lakes on either side during the storm; some of it is in Aven Crum, and some in the Bottle.
Aven Crum
The lake where the river Tennerill turns into the Sluice (the dwarven name for the river to Malfa). Bal Mallard is the main town here; Glannock used to be, until the disaster.
