The Knights of the Round Table
Structure
The organizational structure of the Dragon Knights of Camelot is a complex and highly stratified system that mirrors the hierarchical setup of a medieval court. At the pinnacle of this structure are the Orders, each led by a Magnus Dominus, who holds the prestigious title of Grand Master. The Magnus Dominus is not only a revered figure within the Order but also serves as an advisor to the reigning Dragon King of Camelot. These Orders form the bedrock of the military and administrative might of Camelot.
✦
The Orders are further divided into 15 Divisions, each under the leadership of a Division Princeps. Within each Division, there are 10 Chapters, with a Caput Captain (Chapter Captain) at the helm. These Chapters, in turn, are composed of 15 Knights and 5 Dragonriders. The Knights are a formidable force, akin to the Special Forces of Camelot's military, although they do not constitute the bulk of its armed might.
✦
To support the military activities of each Order, the Draco Milites come into play. These foot soldiers are responsible for intelligence gathering, scouting, and overseeing various logistical and operational tasks, particularly in the realm of starship operations. The size of the Draco Milites within each Order can vary, but it typically ranges from 35,000 to 45,000 personnel. Moreover, each Order is complemented by essential Support Divisions, which include the Armory, Medical Corpus, Dragon Cult, Grand Treasury, and Academy.
- The Armory consists of Blacksmith, Shipwright, and Draftsman Companies that are contracted by the Order to manufacture, maintain, and repair a wide array of equipment, including vessels, starships, and weaponry. To facilitate these tasks, Forge Worlds are employed.
- The Medical Corpus is entrusted with the care of the Order's members and typically maintains one or two planets serving as the headquarters for their medical operations.
- The Grand Treasury manages the financial resources of the Order, overseeing budgets submitted by Divisions, ensuring the availability of funds, and preventing overspending to maintain the overall functionality of the Order.
- Finally, the Order operates Academies and universities, where recruits are trained for roles within the Knights, Draco Milites, or any of the Support Divisions.
History
The Birth of the Dragon Cult and the Rebellion of the Ajagar Yoddha
At the roots of Yggdrasil, the domain known as Kaedia, laid a great serpent dragon, Níðhöggr the Mother of All Dragons. Níðhöggr was an ancient one, one of the first creatures to be brought into existence with the 1st Name of God. Níðhöggr resided at the roots of the great tree and gnawing at the infinite branches to keep them from growing to infinity. It was from her that all of the great dragon races were born and from them, all the lesser dragon races were born. Circa 709 Σειρά, wandering ascetics happened upon the domain and came to revere the dragons as icons of divinity and aspects of the 1st Name of God. They built a mega-city around the roots of Yggdrasil, Draco Radix, and declared themselves as the Cult of the Dragon Worshippers.
✦
The term Ajagar Yoddha refers to the warrior caste of Cultists responsible for protecting Kaedia, the Dragons, and the Cultists. They were originally subservient to the main religious body and held no political power in the Cult until the establishment of the Dragonborne, Mortals who had laid with Dragons to bear unsanctioned fruit. Deemed heretical by the Cult at first but through communion with Níðhöggr, the Cult was forced to accept them as emmissaies of the Dragons themselves. This led to the founding of the great Dragonborne Tribes who shattered the Ajagar Yoddha into their legions. The Tribe Heads gained political power by controlling their legions and would withhold or threaten military action. This was only exacerbated when the cult expanded from Kaedia to other Mortal Realms and some Dragonborne Tribes conducted themselves as autonomous organizations in regards to Cultist rule.
✦
The shattering of the Cults' unity made them much weaker to foreign powers and eventually targets of the Holy Multiverse, who declared Dragons to be against the Divine Plan as they were not products of the 1st Name of God, making them closer to Khaos, and threats to Yggdrasil. The Angels of Heaven and the Gods of the Realms fell upon the various cults, burning a Holy Fire path straight into the heart of Kaedia where St. Michael did battle with Níðhöggr herself. She was defeated and imprisoned in the roots of Yggdrasil forevermore. Draco Radix was laid to ruin and the worship of Dragons was deemed to fall outside of Order.
