Danak Waseef al-Saleem
Tajir Danak Waseef al-Saleem
Danak Waseef al-Saleem is an efreeti Tajir of the 5th Martaba residing in the City of Brass in the Elemental Plane of Fire and the father of the Hero of Saltmarsh Necian Arrzen.
Danak was born in the small city of Saleem on the Elemental Plane of Fire. Though born to a wealty, efreet merchant family of the 2nd Martaba, a series of bad investments by Danak's father, Mujahid Waseef, resulting in the family's standing falling substantially by the time Danak became the head of the family.
In early 1475, Danak was traveling the Prime Material Plane disguised as a half-elf had a brief fling with a half-elven woman named Relinqua in Focosgost, which resulted in the birth of a fire genasi child, which was soon abandoned and adopted by Nicolas Arrzen, who named the chid Necian.
Though uninterested in his son, Nicolas did keep tabs on his life, growing particularly interested as Necian developed a strong friendship with Krisella Ferox, the daughter of Focosgost's leader Joakim Ferox.
Following the 1493 Decker Coup, Necian moved to Saltmarsh. While there, in 1496, Necian became involved in stopping the Banesmark Crisis as one of the Heroes of Saltmarsh, reuniting with Krisella, fighting in the Battle of the Spire and ultimately being elected to the Saltmarsh Town Council.
During this time, Danak remained without an official heir, and seeing this rise in prestige in his halfblood son, decided it was worthwhile to bet on Necian's continued rise in power, either in Saltmarsh or, aspirationally, back in Focosgost, as the prestige of having a son with holdings in the Material Plane could raise the Waseef family's standing.
In Uktar of 1496, while the Heroes of Saltmarsh and Krisella were returning from Firewatch Island, they were approached by Danak and his servants, who teleported onto their ship. Danak introduced himself as Necian's father and invited the group to join him in his estate in the Plane of Fire while his servants steer their ship back to Saltmarsh.
While in the Plane of Fire, Danak proposed his deal. Necian would become Danak's heir, and change his name to ibn Danak to reflect this, in exchange for the one-time aid of a few of Danak's servants and a required one year of tutelage in the Plane of Fire. After tense negotiation, Necian agreed, and the Heroes were returned to the Material Plane.
However, Danak's gamble did not pan out, and Necian never called upon his soldiers for aid. Instead, traumatized by the events of the Banesmark Crisis and the pressures of leadership, Necian instead left Saltmarsh and wandered the Sword Coast.
In 1505, Necian met Tori Miursa, a retired Hellrider and innkeep in Triel, who began breaking him out of his old habits. Inspired by her, Necian took Danak up on his offer of tutelage in 1506, heading well Danak's lessons but seeking to use them for good.
In 1507, Necian reassembled the Heroes of Saltmarsh and Krisella to bring them into the City of Brass and perform a mass breakout of slaves from a Tajir of the 6th Martaba, which was successfully performed without Danak's notice. The freed slaves were brought to just outside of Waterdeep.
