Dunwater Alliance

The Dunwater Alliance was a temporary alliance of the Sunny Shore Tribe, the town of Saltmarsh, and a tribe of locathah and merfolk formed to oppose the sahuagin ruled by Baroness Seklaz.

History

In early 1496, the lizardfolk of the Sunny Shore Tribe were forced from their home in the Javan River Spire by a warband of sahuagin led by Baron Kepmak and Baroness Seklaz. The sahuagin then began transforming the river spire into a fortress, from which they could launch attacks against settlements for miles around. Most of these alterations were done by slave labor captured in sahuagin raids.
The Sunny Shore Tribe, now relocated to the Dunwater Den, began gathering representatives of the locathah, merfolk, and koalinths to launch a preemptive attack against the sahuagin before their fortress was complete. The nearby town of Saltmarsh misinterpreted the shipping of weapons to the lizardfolk as a precursor to an attack against them, and the Heroes of Saltmarsh were sent to stop them. Quickly however, the Heroes realized their mistake, and negotiated Saltmarsh's participation in the alliance, recognizing the threat the sahuagin posed to their town, which drove the anti-surface dweller koalinths. Thus the Dunwater Alliance, named for the lizardfolk's temporary home, was officially born.
For the next several weeks, the alliance began preparing for their battle with the sahuagin, which was planned for the Autumn Equinox, a sahuagin holiday. The preparations were moved to Saltmarsh, a larger settlement with an easier to access port, and representatives from all the races began gathering there.
On the 21st of Elient, the Dunwater Alliance clashed with the sahuagin at the Battle of the Spire, which was an overwhelming victory for the anti-sahuagin forces.

Disbandment

Following the Battle of the Spire, the sahuagin were driven back out into the open Sea of Swords. With their goals achieved, the alliance disbanded shortly after, though the various members of the Dunwater Alliance maintained support with one another in the years to follow.
