Sunny Shore Tribe

The Sunny Shore Tribe was a tribe of lizardfolk that lived on the sea facing side of the Mere of Dead Men

Structure

The Sunny Shore was led by a monarch, either queen or king, as a hereditary title.   During the Banesmark Crisis, the tribe's queen, Proudscar, was heavily advised by a "minister," Worldseeker, who often acted in the queen's name. The tribe was also supported by a group of druids that acted as the tribe's spiritual connected to Semuanya. Though the druids had no direct political power, they still held great sway over the tribe's internal politics.

History

For nearly their entire existence, the Sunny Shore Tribe lived in the Javan River Spire, a large jutting piece of stone that cut out of the Sea of Swords at the mouth of the Javan River. This changed dramatically in the beginning of 1496, when a group of sahuagin, led by Baroness Seklaz and Baron Kepmak, invaded the spire, killing many of the lizardfolk and driving the survivors away.   Those survivors, led by Queen Proudscar made their way to the mouth of the Dunwater River, where they established the Dunwater Den as their temporary home to defend against any further attacks. During their exile, the tribefolk divided into two factions. The progressives, led by Minister Worldseeker and supported by Queen Proudscar, believed that the only way to take the Javan River Spire back was to ally with other races. Opposing them were the traditionalists, led by the Deeproot and the other shamans, who felt that Senuanya demanded that the lizardfolk be self-sufficient. However, Worldseeker had the queen's ear, and Proudscar sent out invitations to nearby aquatic species to come to the Dunwater Den to discuss fighting against their shared enemy, the sahuagin.   Throughout the month of Kythorn, the Lizardfolk discussed with representatives of Locathah, Merfolk, and Koalinth tribes. During this time, the tribe was contacted by Sanbalet's smuggling operation, who claimed to have heard of their loss and offered to supply them with weapons. Proudscar agreed, unaware that Sanbalet and the sahuagin served the same master that only desired chaos.   In early Eleasis of that year, the Heroes of Saltmarsh arrived at the Dunwater Den, having discovered the lizardfolk's connection to Sanbalet and wrongly assuming the lizardfolk were planning to attack Saltmarsh. Following the death of one member of the tribe, the adventurers realized their mistake and, through the killing of Shre-rek, the local bullywug chieftain, and personally swaying various members of the tribe, the heroes convinced the tribe to allow Saltmarsh to join the Dunwater Alliance.   For the next several months, the Sunny Shore Tribe planned the battle to take back their home alongside their allies, now lacking the koalinths, who departed once Saltmarsh was brought into the fold.   On the Autumn Equinox of 1496, the Dunwater Alliance fought the sahuagin in the Battle of the Spire, which was an overwhelming victory thanks to the efforts of the Heroes of Saltmarsh. The Sunny Shore Tribe soon began leaving the Dunwater Den and moving back into the Javan River Spire, a process that went smoothly, save for the B-Team assisting the den's garrison in stopping a burgeoning cult of Myrkul.   While the lizardfolk believed their war was over, the aboleth S'gothgah continued its plan to sow chaos by attempting to manipulate and control various faction heads in the tribe, though Worldseeker was never affected. This internal strife was kept hidden from outsiders and passed following the attempted destruction of the Neveren Trade Fleet.
