Enki

Enki

Enki is a ki-rin from Mount Celestia that was briefly imprisoned in Avernus. He is recognized today in Elturel for his friendship with the young Thei Linden, a High Rider of great renown, and for his role in protecting Elturians during their city's damnation in 1497 and 1498.

History

At some point prior to to 1497, Enki was captured by the Avernian warlord Algoran and placed in his arena to participate in various death games and challenges.   Enki was discovered there in 1497 by the Lost Star Detectives, who were traveling with the hollyphant Lulu. Lulu, feeling sorry for Enki, asked the Detectives to help free him, and Whisk, Arcus Miursa, Alesine Zadava, and Dzarya decided to help. With the Detectives' help, Enki was freed and briefly returned to Mount Celestia, with Whisk on his back, but returned to Avernus to thank the Detectives and return their companion.    Out of a sense of gratitude, Enki agreed to fly to the damned city of Elturel and help the people there as best as he could. Enki also took Thei Linden back with him, an Elturian that the Detectives had rescued wandering Avernus. During their flight back, Enki and Thei formed a close connection as they defended one another from the fiends that attempted to stop them from reaching the city.   In Elturel, Enki settled at Maiden's Leap, and his ki-rin nature allowed fresh water to bubble forth from Bellandi Fountain and fresh food to be grown in the nearby Gardens. Thei also remained with Enki, and the two formed the bedrock of Maiden's Leap, which attracted large amounts of injured and sick Elturians and defenders to protect the area.   During the Battle of Elturel, Enki and Thei defended Maiden's Leap from Yeenoghu's demonic horde, both taking many injuries but not falling before the abyssal tide.   Following Elturel's salvation, Enki remained in the city to help the sick and injured from the battle, but soon returned to Mount Celestia, bidding a heartfelt goodbye to Thei, the two knowing they'd likely not see one another again. However, Enki's aid to Elturel was not forgotten, as Thei, upon becoming High Rider of Elturel, adopted the symbol of the ki-rin as his family crest and Maiden's Leap was renamed to Enki's Rest.
