Algoran's Arena
Alogran's Arena is an abandoned colloseum in Avernus, named for the warlord Algoran who operated out of the arena until his death in 1498.
The arena is currently under the control of Gargauth, the Archduke of Avernus.
Purpose / Function
The arena was once a shrine to a long-forgotten demon lord, built when the front lines of the Blood War pushed far past the River Styx. As part of the worship of this demon, the arena was magically outfitted with the ability to be manipulated by the shrine's contorller according to their whims.
Alterations
When the shrine was rediscovered by Algoran and his warband, the Soul Collectors, it was expanded and renovated to serve as both a base and a tourist attraction. Various rooms were altered to serve as slave and holding pens while others were turned into garages, a vault, a smithy, and more. The walls of the arena proper were also adorned with spikes capable of holding the souls of people that are killed upon them.
History
Abandoned centuries before, the site that would become Algoran's Arena was found by the titular Algoran in the mid 15th century. It was renovated and turned into an arena that attracted travelers of all sorts. Overtime, as word of mouth spread, the arena became more and more popular and Algoran amassed a larger and larger hoard, which in turn enticed more travelers.
In 1497, the arena was twice visited by the Lost Star Detectives. The first time, the Detectives fought in the arena and asked for the freedom of the enslaved githzerai Armag. The second time, they asked for a Nirvanan cogbox upon thier victory. In between these two visits, Alogran was contacted by the archdevil Gargauth who offered to sponsor the arena and protect it in exchange for a modicum of control over it.
Following Algoran's death at the hands of the Lost Star Detectives in 1498, the remaining Soul Collectors abandoned their base, and control over the arena fell to Gargauth, who shortly became the Archduke of Avernus.
