Snapjaw

Chieftain Snapjaw

Snapjaw is the current chieftain of the lizardfolk Scaly Death Tribe.

History

Snapjaw was born to the Scaly Death Tribe in 1462 and from a hatchling began training as a warrior.

Working for the Cult of the Dragon

In the early 1490's, Snapjaw joined the rest of his tribe in serving Cult of the Dragon member Starlin Castro. Castro was primarily responsible for handing the cult's smuggling operation out of Carnath Roadhouse and used the Scaly Death Tribe's fear and veneration of Voaraghammanthar to exploit them.   Snapjaw quickly became disillusioned with the Cult of the Dragon, following the murder of the tribe's chieftain, Sunmaker, at the hands of Pharblex Splattergoo, the leader of the cult's bullywug allies.   In Tarsakh of 1492, Snapjaw was the only survivor of his patrol when it was beset upon by the Breadwinners, who had arrived in the Mere of Dead Men to stop the Cult of the Dragon. Snapjaw told the adventurers of his situation, and the Breadwinners opted to help him free his lizardfolk brethren.   Following the Breadwinners' attack on Castle Naerytar, the Scaly Death Tribe was freed and Snapjaw was declared the new chieftain. He proclaimed a Bullywug Hunt to kill the tribe's oppressors, which the Breadwinners won. The Breadwinners used their boon to spare the life of tribe member Bloodfang Wellington, who Snapjaw had condemned to death for prematurely killing Pharblex Splattergoo. During this time, Snapjaw and Mariana Goldfinch gained mutual respect for one another.

Voaraghammanthar's Oppression

Following the Great Dragon War, Snapjaw attempted to realign the Scaly Death Tribe with Voaraghammanthar, who did not join the Cult of the Dragon. However, the black dragon instead exploited the tribe, stealing away most of their shamans and demanding most of their great warriors and elders to help guard his secret project. This left the Scaly Death Tribe weakened and vulnerable to raids by Yuan-ti and other creatures.   Sometime before 1496, Snapjaw lost both an arm and an eye defending his tribe.   In Nightal of 1496, the Heroes of Saltmarsh met Snapjaw, having come to take the God Trap in Voaraghammanthar's possession. Snapjaw led the adventurers first to Voaraghammanthar's great secret, the corpse of his twin brother Waervaerendor. Snapjaw then aided the Heroes of Saltmarsh by giving them a talisman so they could rescue and be aided by the tribe's shamans in the dragon's lair.   Following Voaraghammanthar's death, Snapjaw again declared a Bullywug Hunt in celebration, though the Heroes of Saltmarsh did not stay for it.
