The Scouring
The Pyreburner taught the primitive humans in the The Oriana Imperium the knowledge of technology and magic, often described as 'The Gift of Fire'. However the Humans, along with Elves and Dwarves, of Amberlight had goals of ascending to greater levels of power. They had created The Divine Hammer and used it to destroy Upper Amberlight and nearly killing the Pyreburner at the same time.
This caused a brutal war between the humans and the Pyreburner. The Humans wer supported by Elves and Dwarves, where the Pyreburner unleashed hoards of fiends and elementals on the human cities and towns. It looked as if the Pyreburner would wipe out the humans completely if it were not for interference from the the gods: The Divine Watcher, The Storm Master, and The Dawnhammer. They sent their avatars to kill the Pyreburner in Amberlight, and were successful, but in his final breath the Pyreburner destroyed the city and all within.
Memories of War
The War against the Pyreburner was over 300 years ago. Despite how deadly the war was on Oriana, there are those who survived and are alive today. The war was a horrific time, with the Pyreburner summoning armies of devils to hunt down humans and any other groups or individuals that would oppose him. Many towns and cities were nearly levelled to the ground. However, any memories of the war were corrupted. Those who participated forgot most of the war, and everyone forgot that it was the humans who started the war. Anytime someone read or heard everything about the war they would have their minds wiped so that they did not learn anything. Once the Mythallar contained within the Halls of Creation depleted in late 301 PS all of the memories came flooding back.

The Pyreburner was killed in the final fight and destroyed the city of Amberlight in the process.
