Greenwich

Greenwich is a town in Greater London, notable for the Greenwich Meridian (0° longitude) and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

It was the site of the Palace of Placentia in the 15th century, the birthplace Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. The palace fell into disrepair during the Civil War and was demolished, replaced by the Royal Naval College. It became a popular resort in the Georgian period, and many grand houses were built there. The Cutty Sark and Gipsy Moth IV sit on the river front, and the National Maritime Museum was established there in 1934.
