With the help of Erik Selvig, Jane Foster works out that Malekith the Accursed intends to use the Convergence to spread the Aether across all Nine Realms.
She also figures out to trace the anomalies, picking up a concentration in Greenwich. Together, they were able to reverse engineer Selvig's anomaly detectors to cause, rather than detect, anomalies, essentially giving her the ability to open portal at will, though she had no control over where they would lead.
