Session 1 - The Challenge

General Summary

The adventure begins with mysterious invitations delivered to three unlikely heroes: Darius, a seasoned warrior; Enigma, a secretive elemental manipulator; and Coprinus, a cunning leshy. Each received an offer from a Contract Demon promising a wish if they triumphed in a competition of wit, strength, and bravery, alongside 97 other contestants. The trio, following the demon's guidance, found themselves in a hidden tavern beneath the town of Whispering Grove.
In this clandestine meeting place, they encountered a diverse array of competitors, each vying for the coveted wish. As a bard played an old song, Coprinus witnessed spectral warriors dancing to the haunting melody. An ancient elf interrupted the performance but was abruptly summoned to a back office by one of the contract demons before offering an explanation.
Subsequently, contestants were called into the back office one by one, experiencing a brief blackout and waking up in a dimly lit dungeon. Darius, handcuffed to Enigma, explored the initial room and encountered Coprinus, now tethered to Weston, a gunslinger and fellow competitor. The quartet formed an uneasy alliance, determined to navigate the challenges ahead.
Their journey led them to a room housing the undead remains of an Ice Snake, surrounded by the spirits of slain Mitflits. Observing the repeated cycle of death, the group intervened, eventually defeating the undead creature and aiding the mitflit spirits in escaping various traps.
Further exploration introduced them to Liliana, a blood mage, and Korag, a hobgoblin soldier, handcuffed together. Realizing the handcuffs impeded her progress, Liliana made a ruthless choice, severing Korag's hand, which resulted in his fiery disappearance. Undeterred, Liliana proceeded to the next floor.
Continuing their quest, the group encountered Melodius, the bard, and Wolfsong, a girl handcuffed to him, fending off a nest of Giant Ants. After a cooperative victory, the group split up. In the subsequent room, they discovered a skeleton adorned with a rose sigil, similar to the one worn by the ancient elf. Ambushed by two contestants seeking their demise, the group fought back, and Coprinus managed a simultaneous defeat, causing the assailants to vanish in a puff of blue flame. The mysteries of Whispering Grove's challenge deepened as the heroes pressed onward into the dungeon's secrets.
