John Michaels
Bomber Man
Major John Evan Michaels, DSM, MM**, LVO, OBC (a.k.a. Welshy)
Major John Michaels is one of only two officers, Alastair Macgregor and himself, who have been promoted through the ranks from being a private to a major, whilst working as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal trooper for the RLC and the 22nd Hereford regiment before being transferred to the Queen's Own Anti-Revolutionary Company as the officer in command of 10th section and the specialists. Major Michaels is a highly talented young man, fluent in most of the major languages spoken in the commonwealth as well as great expertise in SF work and EOD. Like most of the other section leads John followed Alastair Macgregor to the Solent Corps but unlike most of the section leads John never had conventional infantry experience, so Alastair decided to keep John close by and made him battalion 2iC. This has allowed him to learn under Alastair and become an effective light infantry command officer.

Personal history
Born to Welsh Industrialists he was the third son of four children, John was 15 years younger than his eldest brother, and was only 14 when his parents died. After a big fallout with his eldest brother, who had taken over the running of the family business as well as custody of his brother, in 2965 John ran away from home. After drifting rimwards, and being mostly uneducated as well as too young for anything else, he joined the Royal Logsitic Corps.
During his time in basic the RLC realised he was far from stupid, having a good ability to learn languages, including coding languages, system diagrams and chemistry, so they trained him in Explosive Ordance Disposal and sent him to the Tarquin front. He excelled, through a mixture of being a competent leader and surviving the pressures and the occupational risk of being turned into pink mist, rising to SSgt within 3 years. He showed his intelligence and wit throughout his services as an enlisted trooper always up for risk and willing to volunteer for complex tasks. John's unit, under his leadership, was amongst the most effective of his squadron. To have more hope of keeping him alive his commanding officer decided to send him to officer training and get him set up as a staff officer.
John was not happy about this and so got himself transferred to the 22nd Hereford Regiment as the officer in charge of the EOD unit of 'A' Squadron after it was decimated by the Indian Mutiny. In time, however, he was indeed turned into a staff officer, the S-4 of 'A' squadron. He finally joined the QOARC in 2976, aged just 26 as the commanding officer of the 10th Section, over more experienced officers such as Major Alexandra Macgregor. His move from the QOARC to the 1st Solent Rifles was nice and easy, Alastair just asked him to turn up to work at the Solent training centre as his battalion 2iC.
