Colonel Alexandra Kathleen Macgregor- Murray, DCVO, CGM, MD (a.k.a. Boss's Boss)

Lady Alexandra Macgregor, Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, is the Chief Medical Officer of the Solent Corps and Rifles as well as being the long-suffering wife of Colonel Alastair Macgregor, Commanding Officer of the 1st Solent Rifles.   She received her damehood after being one of her Majesty's Queen's bridesmaids at her wedding to Princess Consort, Helen in 2980. This was four years after the Queen's Own Anti-Revolutionary Company officers were raised a level in the Royal Victorian Order, due to their combat operations, bestowing the rank of Commander Royal Victorian Order. The chance to be a bridesmaid, along with her daughter, was possible, because of the interactions between her husband and her Majesty, the Queen, upon her untimely succession. Due to the relative closeness of ages of the two Elizabeths (her own Elizabeth is only 4 years younger) and the Queen's isolation, Alastair and Alexandra became unofficial surrogate parents to her majesty, giving her advice in her personal life and being the ones she introduced to Helen when they first started dating at university. Even now, with her return to frontline combat medicine, after the disbanding of the QOARC, Alexandra is in constant contact with her Majesty.

Personal history

Unlike her Scottish named, but born on an English colony, husband, Alexandra was born on the uranium rich mining planet of Aberdeen Secundus, in the city of Banff, during the year 2934.   Because her parents were a wealthy Uranium miner and a stay-at-home dad, she and her twin brother, David, did not want for much.   Alexandra hated being confined in a classroom, something she shared with her ex-ranger father, until the age of about 13 when she discovered biology. Suddenly engrossed with a subject at school, all her grades benefited and she passed her 16+ exams with top marks in all of her subjects. Aged 18, after passing biology, chemistry and physics with the highest mark possible, she made the journey to the major metropolitan hub world of Glasgow, some 200 lightyears earth-wards from Aberdeen, to study Human and Catechoic medicine, a 7-year course. It was during her third year, after a night of hard pot use and a mass orgy (allegedly, Alastair believes exactly none of those two things), that she was performing a practise surgery and accidentally cut her own left hand middle finger tip off with a scalpel. This required replacement with a cybernetic prosthetic, which she still has to this day.   The journey from Glasgow, to the hallowed halls of Whitehall, via the Australian sector and India, started aged just 5 years old when the Murray Family went to visit the Great Barrier Planets (so-called because of the deep band of dust and debris that is visible across 50% of their night sky). These are found on the edge of the Australian sector. This was 10 years before the Tarquin wars began, and the Great Barrier Planets were prosperous border colonies. The 5 year old Alexandra was astonished by the wealth and breadth of life found there, far greater than even Aberdeen Prime, but this was not to last. That eponymous barrier hid the Tarquin migration fleet until it was too late to head them off in deep space, and those planets were utterly stripped bare within the following 48 hours. This atrocity was the first act of the Tarquin wars and caused a surge of enlistment and commissions. Including one Alastair Macgregor's in 2954. Having heard about the massacre at the Great Barrier Planets, Alexandra, only in year 13, made a mental note to join the army, which she promptly did in 2957. This was as a cadet, during the placement portion of her medical degree, at the Military Academy, Sandhurst, before being assigned the Royal Gloucestershire Light Infantry Regiment in 2959 upon completion of said studies.   It wasn't long into her tour with the RGLIR, that she met the aforementioned Colour Sergeant Alastair Macgregor. Although his memory of the event is a bit fuzzy, she was the second surgeon fixing the gunshot wound he had received to his back at the end of the battle of Helm's Dyke. As she was responsible for his care she found herself chatting to him after rounds, enjoying arguments with him about immunology, haematology and what constitutes good shooting. When he was well enough, the then Lieutenant Macgregor, asked her out on a date. This date went spectacularly well,  he took her to the firing range and taught her how to shoot straight with a pistol, whilst they continued their argument about post-operative infections, before being invited back to Alexandra's. Their second and final official date was her taking him to see a emergency valve replacement performed on one of the division staff officers, followed by an ancient movie, Apollo 13, in Alastair's tiny Lieutenant's billet. Their romance was interrupted by Alastair's constant frontline deployment, but it carried on nonetheless. Because of the nature of being medical officer, Alexandra had a permanent berth at the regimental HQ, as opposed to company level billets. It wasn't long into their relationship, after a change in planet, that Alastair had moved his stuff, consisting of several thousand books on four data slates, a big poster on the Catechols metabolism, an hard drive of movies, and a set of cricket equipment into her billet, marking a stepup in their relationship.   Alexandra was pretty rapidly promoted to captain, a full 6 months before her boyfriend's promotion to the same. What followed was a steady stream of promotions, up to chief surgeon until 2964. With a 2 years old in tow, Alexandra was promoted to Chief Medical Officer, RGLIR. This allowed her to work from her billet, taking care of Elizabeth, whilst doing the paperwork required of running a frontline medical unit. For the next six years, Alexandra and Elizabeth followed the regiment, moving between 4 different planets as it helped stop the Tarquin in its tracks, until it was finally rotated into reserves and allowed to return to its home colony.   In 2969, Alastair was separated from his wife and daughter for 6 months as he, in Alexandra's words, 'pissed about in India', whilst she did the 'hard work' of retraining and restructuring the RGLIR at its home base of Cheltenham. All while living with her parents-in-law, whom she had not actually met until then. Professor Lucy Macgregor and her daughter-in-law got a long swimingly, which suprised Alastair when he got home.   In 2970, she was reassigned as the CMO of the QOARC and relocated to London, Earth, with Alastair, where they lived for 10 years. Her role was CO of the medical officers found within all of the sections and as such was not allowed out into the field. Elizabeth, or Cat, benefited greatly from this, as she went through the entirety of her secondary education at one place. It was also during this time that upon the death of her own mother and father, the Queen, Elizabeth Regina looked to both Macgregors for parental guidance and support, which was gladly given.   By 2980, when the official disbanding of the QOARC occurred, Cat had left for her own adventures at Glasgow University, leaving there no reason for Alexandra to not follow her husband into the new task of shaping raw recruits into a fighting force good for killing Tarquin. Despite only being 48 years old, only one third average Human lifespan, Alexandra feels like she has done her role and that perhaps she should retire to a quiet general hospital; somewhere nice and central in the Commonwealth. But, of course, who would patch up her bloody stubborn husband, his two bros and her best friend, Alice Locke.

History

Having met in 2959, when Alexandra patched Alastair back together in the fortress of 'Helm's Deep' after his successful rear-guard against the Tarquin and being shot by Colour Sergeant Lovett. A few weeks later, he found out in rounds that she was the second surgeon for the procedure, the perfectly neat sutures being her handiwork. The two, now both, lieutenants had enjoyed an exceptionally passionate argument about post-op infections and their treatment for an hour. He won, having a PhD in immunology helped.   As she was responsible for his care, she found herself chatting to him after rounds, enjoying arguments with him about immunology, haematology and what constitutes good shooting. When he was well enough, the then Lieutenant Macgregor, asked her out on a date. This date went spectacularly well, he took her to the firing range and taught her how to shoot straight with a pistol, whilst they continued their argument about post-operative infections, before being invited back to Alexandra's billet. Their romance was interrupted by Alastair's constant frontline deployment, but it carried on nonetheless.   They got married two years later on the HMS King Alexander. Elizabeth Katherine Macgregor, was born barely a year later.
