The Dark Forest
The Dark Forest is a large forest, located to the west of the kingdom of Autara. It is the home to the Witches of the Woods as well as to many animals and creatures, such as Pixies and Pixie-Eating Frog.
The forest is a living forest that seems to have thoughts and feelings at times and is steeped in Magic. It is because of this that outsiders are fearful of entering, only traveling through it if absolutely necessary or if one has some inside knowledge of the forest and knows how to stay on its good side.
If one gets on the forest’s bad side the Living Trees and animals may attack them, and paths may suddenly disappear or change to steep drops. People may be lured off course by strange noises or lights thinking it's more people only to become lost. This only adds to the fear of those that aren’t familiar with the forest.
The Forest is home to many Befallen, a trait which makes the forest even more dangerous after the sun sets.
Regions & Locations
The Witch’s Village
The Witch’s Village is a village of witches living in the Dark Forest, one of many. The Village is led by a woman called the Mother Witch. The Village is made up of around a dozen domed huts made of bark and grass mats, with the Mother Witch living in the largest most decorated hut. It is rare for outsiders to reach the witch village, due to the forest's natural dangers as well as the traps and wards the witches have around the village to confuse and scare away outsiders. The witches often employ spells that bewilder and frighten outsiders, with no care as to whether or not the person gets home safe afterward. This is another reason why the Autarans, and other outsider groups, fear the witches.History
The Dark Forest has been around for as long as anyone can tell, with the borders of the forest growing and shrinking as people moved about the land. The Witches of the Wood, too have been living in the woods for as long as anyone can remember, with history telling of how the witches once rose up under a great Mother Witch and attempted to overtake the land.
