Knights of Autara

Knights are a type of well-trained soldier that works for the Autaran military to protect and defend the kingdom.
During times of war, well-trained respected knights may serve as officers directing the common foot soldiers.

Ranks

In order to become a knight, one must be knighted by a noble -or another high-ranking knight- often after performing a significant act of bravery with the knighthood being a reward. This often ties knights to the service of specific nobles or regions rather than the kingdom as a whole.
Knights often get training via apprenticeships, working as squires to older established knights who teach them horseriding, wielding weapons, and other skills that are useful when being a knight. Anyone can become a Knight, but they are mostly from the upper and middle classes.
Most Knights work outside of the Capital employed at garrisons and forts around the kingdom, but some stay in the Capital and work directly for the Queen often working on the City Guard or as Guards for the Royal Family.

Uniforms

Knights, because they are not an organized group, do not have a standardized uniform really only wearing similar outfits because of the necessity of armor in their job. They often will wear a gambeson and plate armor and wield their signature sword as well as polearms and often fight from horseback as well as from the ground.
