In search of Identity
Half-elves (also called Tel'Quessir in elven) were humanoids born through the union of an elf and a human, walking in two worlds but truly belonging to neither. Whether a half-elf was raised by their human parent or their elven parent, they often felt isolated and alone. But half-elves combine what some say are the best qualities of their elf and human parents: human curiosity, inventiveness, and ambition tempered by the refined senses, love of nature, artistic tastes, and longer lifespan of the elves. Some half-elves live among
Humans, set apart by their emotional and physical differences, watching friends and loved ones age while time barely touches them. Others live with the
Elves, growing restless as they reach adulthood in the timeless elven realms, while their peers continue to live as children. Many half-elves, unable to fit into either society, choose lives of solitary wandering or join with other misfits and outcasts in the adventuring life.
Wanderers and Adventurers
Half-elves have no lands of their own, though they are largely welcome in human cities and somewhat less welcome in Elven forests and high elf kingdoms. In large cities in regions where elves and humans interact often, half-elves are sometimes numerous enough to form small communities or neighborhoods of their own. More often, they prefer instead to create broad social communities,
business arrangements, or information sharing networks which draw less attention to themselves. They enjoy the company of other half-elves, and strangely to some;
Half-Orcs the only other people who truly understand what it is to live between these two worlds. But Half-elves are also prodigious
Adventuring Groups and wanderers; having no racial homeland, and feeling out of place within either of their heritage, many half-elves find solace and comfort on the road wandering the wilds as trappers, foresters, hunters, or adventurers delving into dungeons; only rarely stopping to visit civilization. Others, in contrast, throw themselves into the thick of society, putting their charisma and social skills to great use in diplomatic roles or as swindlers. Many Half-Elves have also embraced the religious teachings of
Avandra, who appeals to their sense of freedom, wanderlust, and adventure.
Half-elves are found all around the world, in both human and elven lands. It is possible at this point, that Half-Elves are more common than pure-blood elves within most human Kingdoms. While many elves themselves are still mistreated and looked down on; half-elves are looked at dismissively. They are largely accepted, but still face occasional marginalization for their heritage, but less so if they've managed to be even mildly successful in life, and shrug off the hints of Elven culture. Of the Kingdoms, Half-Elves have particularly gravitated towards
Morencia as a place full of others who had no home to speak of. The
Sun Elves of
Thas'Dorah have also happily opened their doors to Half-Elves who accept their way of thinking.
