Once hidden away in the thick, untouched forests of the Thal'Andras peninsula; Thas'Dorah is
High Elven Kingdom bent on the resurgence of their people and built on the ancient ruins of their forefathers. Once outcasts, slaves, beggars, and vagabonds; the so-called
Sol'Cari Elves of Thas'Dorah now seek to recover and rebuild their roots while charting a new path for their people in the world and into the future.
An Outcast People
The Sol'Cari elves were once outcasts in the world. After the total collapse of the Elven Realms during the rise of humanity; surviving Elven Kingdoms magically shut themselves away from the world and left many of their kin to fend for themselves in a world that was no longer theirs. After a millennium of slavery and marginalization, a young elf by the name Erethond Sunstrider, one of few remaining elves able to draw their linage back to nobility; rallied some of his people and disappeared into the woods of the Thal'Andras peninsula. There, he had discovered the ruins of an ancient elven land, long lost to war and overtaken by nature. In those ruins for the next 150 years, he and his people would build a kingdom away from those who would seek to stop them; and founded the realm of Thas'Dorah.
Bitter and Determined
The Sol'Cari of Thas'Dorah are driven by one key mantra;
Our destiny is now in our hands. The Gods and our own people abandoned us to our fates, and we lived. No one will come and save us, we must to look to ourselves, and do what is necessary to save our people and rebuild our future. This mentality has driven them to abandon their Gods, adopt what many consider to be dangerous or abhorrent magical practices, leverage nationalism and desires for vengeance, and aggressively pursue their own agenda.
The population of Thas'Dorah is still considered small in comparison to that of
Lothrimir or
Ellyrion, but is likely the largest population center of High Elves outside of those locations. The majority of population is
Sol'Cari Elves,
Half-Elves, and
Wood Elves. Much like
Dor'Danil, Thas'Dorah is sort of a duel kingdom in that many nomadic wood elf tribes and clans live the forests and helped keep it free from outside influence for thousands of years; but they do not seek to build a civilization or unified kingdom, and the high elves inhabit the cities and govern a kingdom. Together they share the land, but the wood elves particularly inhabit the eastern forests, acting as scouts, rangers, and wardens of those woods. While the realm openly accepts Half-elves into their midst, they do so with the anticipation of slowly breeding-out the human side of the equation over time.
Of Gods and Magic
As a result of their years long plight, the Sol'Cari are largely agnostic to the Gods. They can't deny that they exist, but they just don't care because they feel the Gods don't care about them. The state, formally has no religion and doesn't build temples. But, they also don't stop people from worship or building religious sites if that is their choice. Some continue to worship the
Elven Pantheon, but with a different focus; now with
Andormu,
Ioun,
Mythrax,
Gorak'Tul, and
Shar at it's heart, rather than
Heliod and
Selûne. Another religion has found its way within the borders, is
The Guiding Light from neighboring
Lightforged Realm of Morencia, which has been making in-roads from Elves who had lived in that region previously, missionaries, and general osmosis from being neighbors.
Magic flourishes openly in the streets. Large magical crystals float and power the city, tall organic twisting towers soar into the sky, and magical creatures roam the land. It is a common practice among the many magic user to bind various magical creatures to their service, be they fey, mortal, fiendish, elemental or otherwise. One practice which draws the ire of many, is their use of necromantic magic to capture the souls of the dying and preserve them within the
Amaranthine Assembly. The study of magic is endemic, and few categories are officially off limits to researchers, even blood magic. Even though the research is largely unregulated, it is still heavily watched by the Eclipsion Spellbreakers who have broad authority to determine if such research borders on the heretical and is a risk to the people of Thas'Dorah.
Government
After fostering the kingdom and its growth in the early years, Crown Prince Erethond decided to leave his newly formed land. He had discovered information about the history of his people and left suddenly to pursue something of "great importance to our people". Before departing, he decreed that Thas'Dorah would from hereon never be governed by a crown, and passed leadership over to his longtime friend and advisor Lorthemar Theron as the new Lord Regent of Thas'Dorah. Today, alongside the Grand Magister, the High Exarch, the High Seeker, and Arch Chancellor; they form the Phoenix Court. Alongside the Amaranthine Assembly of their ancestors, they seek to chart a path for Thas'Dorah into the future. But, the realm is in a state of limbo. While Lord Regent Theron is well respected and leads his people with strength and honour; no mechanism exists yet as to how a new Lord Regent will be picked, and many of the remaining noble families chaff at being locked out of power. Thas'Dorah maintains close relationships with both its neighbors; Morencia and
The Charnault Kingdom, and together form an a defensive alliance against encroachment by a vengeful
Kingdom of Tiriande.
