Ami Littleton

Ami Littleton is a major character of Pokemon: The Indigo Chronicles. She was chosen to be one of the 2019 starters in Johto by Professor Elm and was given a Chickorita by him. While she lacked a direct goal during her first appearance she would eventually return to Johto and vacation to Unova before realizing that she wanted to become a pokemon sommelier. She is currently in Paldea apprenticing under Brassius and working in his S-Class shop.

Character

Ami is talkative, friendly and empathetic. Her talkative nature often gives her new opportunities and allows her to make many connections but she is often wordy and forgets to let others get a word in. Ami often will respond instinctually and as she continues to talk realizes that she could have responded with more tact and double back to correct herself. While this outgoing personality it mostly coming from a good place it sometimes seeds from nervousness and indecisiveness.
Ami is the first to feel bad for someone who is down on their luck and is immensely talented at putting herself in another's shoes and looking from their point of view. She is known for giving others the benefit of the doubt and will always lend support; sometimes to people she's just met. This has caused her to go out of her way to defend underdogs, outcast and especially those that get used. While she originally had a somewhat nervous and unsure nature she has since developed confidence to be able to stand up for those that she feels needs a little push.
When you meet as many people as Ami does it becomes stressful to support all of them in their endeavors. Despite this Ami is always cheering for those in pursuit of goals and dreams even if she can't physically be present for competitions or key moments, though she is known to often drop everything to be their for a friend. This has caused Ami to be incredibly active on social media in hopes of being able to stay connected with all of her friends. While it has immensely benefited her and allowed her to send support to her friends it has caused her to have a minor following on the internet-- which is something she's unsure she truly wants.

Appearance

Ami has sandy brown hair and sage green eyes. Ami is quite lean although she lacks the athleticism as many of her traveling companions. Throughout the Indigo Chronicles blue seemed to be her favorite color to incorporate into her outfits. While not a huge fan of hats she often uses various bandanas to style her hair and keep it out of her eyes if it's not just up in a simple bun or pigtails.
Ami was introduced wearing a white sleeveless shirt, blue cardigan and denim shorts over tights. She wore large black combat boots although they were apparently ruined in Mt. Moon as she switched to a new pair of brown combat boots. When she returned later in A Sommelier Shakeup she still wrote her signature white sleeveless shirt but instead wore black jeans.

In Indigo League Victors her style reflected her sommelier status as she wore a black sleeveless turtle neck and retired her blue bandana for a more chic red bandana instead. She wore black knee socks, brown boots and a red skirt. Although she dressed more professional and chic after becoming a sommelier she still retained some of those indie qualities that were signature to her outfits such as wearing a jean jacket with a band pin or chocker necklace to compliment her outfit.

History

Pre-Series

Ami was born in Olivine City to Owen and Constance Littleton. Ami and her older brother Reed had very encouraging parents who owned the Cornerside coffee shop downtown Olivine. While the coffee shop isn't a gold mine-- it is quite successful and the chill location for many students, twenty and thirty somethings and artists to hang out. Ami was always encouraged to take lessons and experience life by her parents. Her father especially would pay for various dance, instrument and art classes if Ami wished to take them-- even if they were only phases and not something she'd see through.
Ami decided not to go to secondary school and while she originally was just going to learn how to work in the cafe to eventually split ownership with her brother a fateful meeting with the regional professor changed that. When treating his long time friend Captain Marius to a cup of coffee Ami would meet Professor Elm who thought that the latte she made was made with "110 percent heart," a compliment that meant a lot to Ami since her brother was generally seen as the better espresso-slinger. After talking with Professor Elm for some time, who she didn't realize was the professor at first, he was surprised when he found out she didn't have a pokemon nor was planning on attending secondary school. Ami and the professor talked for some time and he thought she had the heart to succeed in any field she wishes and should only take over the coffee shop if she truly desires it. He would personally hand Ami a application for the starter program and told her that he'd love to read it if she was interested. On a whim Ami applied and would depart for New Bark Town at the start of the season with support from her parents and older brother.
Ami would stand alongside five other perspective trainers. The other two trainers accepted as Johto starters and two individuals who would partake in the first "Egg Cycle Program." Despite Ami's attempt to get to know the others she was somewhat shot down while waiting for the professors arrival with only on of the Egg Cycle participants, Loren Velter, engaging too much in conversation with her. She would be the last to pick her starter and despite picking last-- was pretty happy to get partnered with Chickorita.
While the other two starters quickly went on their way to both compete in the gym and contest circuit, Ami stuck around New Bark Town for some time. She would end up catching a Sentret that was digging through some trash at a local cafe and would be pretty unsure of where to go first. Professor Elm sensed her reluctance to take her first step onto route 29 and would send her on an errand to deliver a fossilized egg to the Pewter City Museum of Science. Ami was sacred of such an important seeming task but accepted none the less.

Indigo Chronicles

Ami first appeared in A Positive Attitude where she was found looking around the outskirts of the Viridian forest for a Plusle by Mige and Ace. Despite the two being tired from their trek through the Viridian Forest, which Ami wondered why they didn't just take the transport, they decided to help. While Ami would attempt to catch the Plusle many times-- she would fail every time. Despite Mige and Ace's support she was discouraged. When a stampede of wild pokemon nearly killed the three trainers, Ami noticed a Beedril that was getting trampled by the rest of the pokemon. Ami acted quick and caught the pokemon. Despite it not being the cute Plusle she wanted she decided to cherish the Beedrill instead-- even if he was a bit creepy.
Ami would compete in the Pewter City Rumble at the suggestion of Ace in hopes that the group could get some cash. Ace remarked that the group had a 1 in 4 chance of winning since their were only eight contestants-- but Ami would be eliminated in the first round when Haley Comet's Clefairy would take out both her Chickorita and Sentret. Despite this Ami was friendly with Haley and would even come to cheer her up when she was beaten and mocked by Tim Fisher.
In A Marill Fiesta and Beedrill Siesta would temporarily trade Marill and Beedrill to help Ami with her gym battle against the Pewter Gym. She would lose Marill before her match causing her and Ace to panic while looking for her-- but would ultimately find her and use her in her victory against Brock.
Ami would fight alongside Mige, Tim and Ace against a group of Rockets on the way to Cape Cerulean in A Fond Farewell. She was mortified that someone could treat a pokemon so poorly when one of them physical abused and abandoned their pidgey. Ami would tend to the Pidgey and would adopt it as her own. When Mige remarked how she's really improved at communicating with pokemon and pokemon medicine-- Ami had the revelation that she didn't think she wanted to focus on battling as much as the others and needed to figure out what exactly she wanted to do. When she told the group she'd be returning to New Bark Town Mige told her to take Marill with her for a while since the two got along so well. Ami accepted to left the group.
Ami, alongside Beedrill and Chickorita, would briefly appear on the Video Phone in Enter: Tiki Tim and Martini Mige when Mige wanted to recall Marill and take them on the S.S. Anne with him.
In A Sommelier Shakeup Ami would briefly reunite with Mige and join him and Jenn. She is shown to have spent some time in Unova and has become a C-Rank Sommelier. She would stay with Mige and Jenn until the end of the events in The Ferocious Flower Friend.

Indigo League Victors

Ami would arrive with Ace to the Indigo League Conference to watch Mige and Tim's matches. In Goop Gas Attack! Rocket’s Sneak Attack! She would follow Ace's lead and battle rocket grunts using Bayleaf and Pidgey.

Relationships

Ami has a lot of acquaintances but a close-knit group of friends. Along with Mige, Ace and the friends she met through them she has a close group of artistic friends in Olivine and some other aspiring sommeliers she met in Unova. While she will always travel to support these friends, she still tries to send support to acquaintances and others she met outside these circles if she can.
Ami is incredibly talkative around strangers and arguably more than when she is around those she's comfortable with. She usually doesn't find too much joy in silence and if conversation seems to die she'll try and come up with extremely random topics to keep the group engaged or will occasionally make sounds by tapping her fingers, clicking her tongue or fidgeting.

She is tied Lara for least amount of appearances of the major characters throughout the Indigo Chronicles although Lara appears more overall due to being present in every episode of Indigo League Victors.

Trivia

• Ami is the first of two "official" starter trainers to travel with Mige for a prolonged period of time with the other being Zoey.
• Ami is the first character to to trade a pokemon with another major character (Her Beedrill for Mige's Marill) although this trade was only temporary.
• Ami is the first character Mige would gift a pokemon to.
• Ami is one of two major character in the Indigo Chronicles that would not meet Bill throughout the series. The other is Lara. Bill would go on to meet Ami in Indigo League Victors.
• Ami is the first character to officially decide to pursue the path of Pokemon Sommelier despite other character showing abilities associated with the trade.
• Ami's family used her mother's last name instead of her fathers when the two married.
