Mige Fjord

Mige Fjord is the main character of Pokemon: The Indigo Chronicles and Pokemon: New Horizons. He is the former ward and adopted son of Bill Fjord . His starter pokemon was an Eevee given to him by Bill who was notable for being the last hatched and runt of five. Although Mige is reluctant to claim a goal he has participated in the Indigo League and is currently an aide to Professor Sycamore.

Character

Mige is generally calm, polite and observant in social situations. Mige is a listener at heart but always ask a lot of questions. Mige always takes his time to formulate responses in conversation and sometimes will remain silent instead of responding at all. Although he is often thought of as being quiet or brooding these tendencies are broken in various situations; usually due to his friend can bringing out a more "energized" version of himself that many would consider "out of character." Mige isn't always stoic and could even be deemed quirky due to being somewhat oblivious to social situations and having off-beat interests. Despite his low level of social awareness Mige is quite good at determining a person's true intent or emotions in one-on-one conversations. Despite always being willing to listen Mige can become irritable around situations he finds nonsensical and aggravating individuals. He is put-off by people he finds too pushy and becomes irritable when being forced to do something he doesn't want to do. He often dislikes people he finds fake, unauthentic, and most of all cocky. He can also get over whelmed by people who are overly-enthusiastic though this isn't a trait he dislikes. When faced against situations and people that aggravate Mige his sarcastic humor and acerbic responses start to show more-- though people are generally not warded off by these qualities.   Despite his friends being very important to him Mige is terrible at keeping his friends updated and staying in touch. It is unclear if Mige simply forgets to update those close to him about important events he's experienced or simply doesn't want to bother them with it. Mige spent most of The Indigo Chronicles electing to refrain from revealing information to others whether as minor as catching a new pokemon to as exciting, or dangerous, as fighting off Team Rocket executives in the sea foam islands. It seems as if he is actively working on this trait in New Horizons with Mige being very open towards Kai as early as Quel Est Mon Nom when he told him his whole history with both Jenn and Benjamin.   A trait Mige finds most uncomfortable is his ability to use Aura. In Stay at the Copy Cat Cafe psychic user Will revealed to Mige that he is aura sensitive which explains his discomfort around psychic users and ghost pokemon and phenomenon. While he has since managed to remedy his discomfort around psychic and ghost pokemon he still has tremendous discomfort around ghostly events. Despite reassurance from those around him Mige worries that his "gift" defines and often times refers to it as a curse. Despite his aura emerging during The Indigo Chronicles only three characters are revealed to actually know that Mige is aura sensitive; Will, Zoey and Henri. Of the three Zoey is the only one Mige actively told. In New Horizons he is more willing to tell others about his aura capabilities, though this is largely due to the surrounding circumstances, and many members of the cast know about his powers.

History

Main Article: Detailed History (Mige Fjord)

Pre-Series

Mige was found by Bill wandering around the streets of Cerulean City when he was around the age of eight. Little is known about Mige's life before this event although it is left unclear if Mige remembers anything before this point or chooses to neglect bringing it up. In The Crystal Cave when Mige is tortured with visions given to him by the gigantic Runerigus he see his young self crying over the body of a deceased woman in the rain, which may or may not be his mother.   Mige was a docile and quiet child who picked up many skills from Bill such as cooking, engineering, business and a vast amount of pokemon knowledge. Despite Mige learning a lot about Pokemon being raised by Bill he never truly showed great ambition for wanting to go on his trainers journey and did not apply for the starter program or leave home when he was of age.   Mige has revealed, countless times throughout the series, that Bill forced him to go to science camp one year and while he was away Bill tampered with teleportation and ended up turning into a Clefairy. This has caused Mige to have an extreme distaste for both teleportation and the idea of summer camp.

Indigo Chronicles

In Eevee - I Choose You!, Mige accompanied Bill to Pallet Town to help fix the error in Professor Oak's Storage System located at his laboratory. When Professor Oak gets a call from Old Man Vincent to come take a look at a new species of pokemon Bill convinces Professor Oak to entrust Mige with the task. Bill sends Mige to go check it out and tells him to pick one of his Espeon's newly hatched Eevee's to join him on his adventure. Mige takes a liking to the shy runt of the quintet and the two head north to Rako Village. This would be the start of Mige and Espeon's unbreakable bond as the two travel together through Kanto. Mige would catch his first pokemon, a stoic and somewhat unruly Pidgeotto, at the end of Eevee - I Choose You! Despite having a difficult time gaining it's trust; Pidgeot would become one of Mige's closest team members and their bond would rival that of Mige and Espeons. Many would consider Pidgeot Mige's Ace.   In The Protector of Rako Village Mige would meet Jenn and Bulbasaur during a fight with some thugs harassing Old Man Vincent. Mige would work with Jenn to stop them and also would throw himself in front of a whip aimed to hit her Bulbasaur. Mige would discover Jenn is an aide to Professor Oak and the two would accompany one another back to Pallet Town.   Mige would face off against Sammy Albright after returning to the lab, who was also given one of Bill's Eevees. Mige would lose the battle but was unbothered by the defeat. Bill would suggest that Mige walk home from the lab as the journey could be a good experience. Mige was hesitant but eventually agreed. Mige would go on to meet various other traveling companions, although Jenn wouldn't join him for some time. He would be joined by the aggressive and foul-mouthed artist Ace Burnett, the talkative yet clumsy Ami Littleton and his future best friend and rival Tim Fisher.   Mige would catch a variety of pokemon during his travels with his first party including a trouble-making Squirtle, Intelligent and friendly Geodude, and adopt a abandoned Growlithe that was aggressive and bold. Mige would also be given Jenn's Bulbasaur in Rematch at Cape Cerulean: Eevee Versus Eevee!   Mige's adventuring party would change throughout his journey with friends coming and going. After Mige and Tim went on the S.S. Anne they would run into Jenn again who would then stay with Mige for the remainder of the Series. Other long-term companions include Zoey Silph, Benjamin deWolfe and Lara Miyamoto.

Indigo League Victors

After collecting eight badges throughout their journey through the Kanto region Mige would compete in the Indigo Plateau Conference. Mige would, along with many other trainers, fight off Team Rocket during a mass attack on the Indigo Plateau. Mige would go with Zoey, Aiden, Tabitha, Haley and eventually Corrin to take on the executives directly.

Mige would be shown making it through the preliminary matches without too much hassle in Powering through the Preliminaries. While he mainly fought unnamed trainers-- he would at one point fight a self-proclaimed ace named Nikai in his final preliminary match and would be shown beating him easily with Arcanine.

In Introducing Kanto's 2020 Top 32 Mige is interviewed alongside the other top 32 trainers and gives very distant and off-beat answers. He battles and defeats Barbie Silva in Will the Protector Prevail? Mige watches Charlie and Louis' battles in Sinnoh Showcase alongside Tim, Armand and Zoey. Mige is the first to tell them they did good despite their loss.

Sammy would be drawn as Mige's opponent in Final Bout! Espeon Versus Umbreon and despite Espeon finally defeating his older brother Mige is on the back-foot for most of the fight. However in the follow up episode, To Go Further Beyond!, Mige's Pidgeot undergoes a strange transformation after and is able to defeat the rest of Sammy's team. Pidgeot is rushed to intensive care after the battle and Mige himself collapses and is taken to the nurse.

In the Top 4 Mige and Tim are drawn to fight and the match is considered one of the most even of all the matches of the Top 32. The last round is Espeon VS Primeape and after a final exchange of blows Espeon collapses and Tim is declared the winner. Mige is happy after the match and continues to root for Tim for the rest of the league. Mige would simply return to Cape Cerulean after saying good bye to all his friends.

New Horizons

After two months of relaxing at home with his pokemon, getting in mod culture and restoring old galarian scooters Mige would be dragged alongside Bill to a fundraiser on the S.S. Anne. It's here that he'd meet Professor Sycamore and be given the opportunity to travel to Kalos as his aid in hopes of studying the secrets behind Mega Evolution-- as Sycamore believes that's what his Pidgeot underwent during the Indigo Conference. Mige would accept the offer and tell leave for Kalos within the week.

Crystal Leer, who also competed in the Indigo League, would also be present on the cruise ship and Mige would dance with her in an attempt to get Diantha attention for Crystals sake as a favor. Mige and Crystal made plans to meet up in Kalos. Mige would prepare for his trip and decide to only take Houndour with him to Kalos. He would have goodbyes with Jenn, Bill and his pokemon before leaving Kanto.

In Kalos Mige would be given a Chespin by Sycamore in Tres bien! Life in the City of Light! Mige and Crystal would become traveling companions after they both set up for their pokemon to go to Sycamore's lab while in Kalos. They would meet a food critic with an unruly Volbeat in The Critic and the Volbeat named Kai that would be another constant member of their traveling party. Although Mige's primary reason for being in Kalos is research he is still collecting badges and is considering competing in the Kalos League. He has met some recuring companions such as Alexa, Viola and Celosia.
