Alamarri Sons
The Alamarri Sons was an organization that brought about the Ferelden Civil War in a fight to throw King Calenhad Theirin from his throne and to protect the Alamarri people he had so flagrantly dismissed. Adrian Black served as the leader of the organization during its existence and helped grow the organization to control almost the entirety of southern Ferelden.
While the organization was still around, it claimed that the existence of the Sons was brought about by the lies of King Calenhad and the injustices he had allowed to happen against his own people. The organization eventually crumbled in upon itself due to the actions of King Gregory Flume.
Structure
This organization existed on the back of Ferelden's nobility system. Several of the organization's main leaders were teyrnirs, arls, or banns before they defected from underneath Calenhad's rulership. At its height, prior to the Landsmeet where the Sons fell apart, the Sons controlled territory and had political allies stretching from Avvar in the Frostback Mountains to Edgehall to Gwaren.
The organization broke itself into many sub-groups based on location since there were many bloody fights that were waged and quick responses were necessary. For instance, those Sons around Edgehall worked in unison and created allegiances between their people and some Avvar holds.
Each region had its own unique chain-of-command.
Public Agenda
The idea of revolution first came up during one of Ferelden's Landmeets. It came from the teyrnir of Gwaren at the time, Adrian Black. During that Landsmeet's second day in session, the Wardens who were sent to Dur Themriel to fight the advancing Jrid were massacred. At the time, no survivors were thought to be alive.
The day before that loss, Adrian Black had accused the King of several things, things that he had witnessed over his years as teyrnir that were unacceptable and for which he claimed he couldn't stand for much longer. His major complaints were as follows:
- The King had overstepped his boundaries time and time again in an attempt to indoctrinate the freemen of Ferelden unto the belief of the Maker. As a vocal believer in the traditional Alamarri pantheon, Black saw this as an attack against many of his own people and therefore their way of life.
- The lack of aid given to those Alamarri who had family fight in the Ferelden Rebellions, despite promises saying such aid would come. Many Fereldens came home to towns and villages razed, and the King had promised them compensation to help build their communities back up. Outside of large settlements, many warriors and families never received the help they needed. Because of which, poverty and famine was rampant in southern Ferelden.
- Those Alamarri born with magic were being torn from their communities, either by being taken prisoner by the Templar Order or being murdered by the same organization. Black vehemently believed that such a threat against those of Alamarri blood should be treated no differently than a foreign invader. Despite this, the King had regularly given them more leeway than they so deserved. More over, there were free Alamarri mages for centuries before the Templars had a presence in Ferelden's lands and yet despite these mages' freedoms, society never came crashing down.
History
The organization fell apart when Warden-Commander Gregory Flume and Sons-Leader Adrian Black met at a Landsmeet following King Calenhad's death at the hands of the Arishok. Black slung insults towards Flume, but Flume for the most part kept himself cool-headed. The two eventually served as champions that represented the two warring factions and they dueled: Gregory representing the unified Ferelden and Adrian representing the Sons. In a close bout, Black lost but before he could be killed he was conscripted into the Wardens. Without a leader who could unify the many different members of the Sons, the organization quickly fell apart.
Another contributing factor for their downfall was the Jrid. For almost the entirety of the civil war, the Sons were fighting a two-front war and though they held a ton of military power many looking back believe one of the most significant reasons they lost from the start.
Territories
At its height, this organization had control over the land between the southern half of Ferelden and north of the Korcari Wilds. Redcliff and South Reach were the exceptions to that boundary.
After their dissolution, this group owns no land.
Religion
The leaders of the Alamarri Sons had a particular interest in seeing the faith in the Alamarri pantheon restored, but they did not plan on having a heavy hand in such matters. In practicality, they wanted to allow anyone of any faith to practice their beliefs within the organization, within reason. So long as one's religion did not actively oppose the goals of the organization, such as freedom for all Alamarri, the organization not disturb one's practice. The most common systems of belief within the Alamarri Sons were the Alamarri Pantheon, the Maker, and the Dalish pantheon.
Foreign Relations
The leaders of this organization saw other foreign nations as radicalized under the Chantry's indoctrination, but aside from the Free Marches and Orlais these nations were not considered threatening. Orlais in particular was detested by this organization, due to the bloody history during Orlais' occupation of Ferelden and the Ferelden Rebellions.
