Dark Star Pirates
A band of pirates found in the Arcturus galaxy. They are unusual for their use of advanced technology, typically stolen from other factions. A technology they developed themselves, however, is incredible use of Spatial Rifts. All their home areas are completely surrounded by rifts, disallowing anyone else from entering.
Although the Hyperion Federation have RCWDs, they still find it difficult to traverse Spatial Rifts. Especially when there are well-armed pirates on the other side.
Their starships are often made using stolen technology from the Republic of Miasi and Alti Dominion, borrowing the rapid strike doctrines of the Miasi, as well as the rapid fire railguns of the Alti.
The pirate faction also likes to take people from other factions and enslave them, seeing their own species, Van'Dri, as superior.
