Maive Ara

Caution is the Better Part of Valor

Maive Ara

"Small jobs may not put you in a castle, but they won't put you in the ground either. Better to live with enough than to die chasing wealth you do not need."-Maive talking to a group of new mercenaries
Maive Ara is a human Odion woman. She is 62 but many comment that she looks significantly younger than that and do not believe when she says her age. She is a Lieutenant with Forever Bound by Iron, a mercenary group based out of the Orc Domain in Utican. Maive is an experienced warrior. She takes her role within the company seriously and believes that caution is the better part of valor. Some criticize Maive for lacking ambition, but she rarely loses mercenaries under her command and consistently earns enough money to live.

Personal history

Maive grew up amongst the many stepped temples of the Odion in the Abbas Wastes. She was born in the city of Beon in the north Abbas Wastes. Growing up in Beon Maive had many opportunities to interact with preople outside of her own culture. Unlike the cities deeper in the Abbas Waste, Beon was relatively easy to access and very receptive to trade with their neighbors to the north. When Maive reached adulthood she decided she wanted to see more of the world.   She used what little money she had to buy a sword and some armor. Like so many before her she set out to be a great adventurer. Unfortunately, tragedy struck early in her adventuring days. While hunting a pack of gnolls, Maive and her party were lured into a trap and ambushed. As the arrows and spears rained down on them all they could do is try to fight their way out. The group wizard, an educated Orc from Lazgar, was turned into a pin cushion and died almost immediately. While the cleric tried to save the wizard a group of massive hyenas pounced on him, pinning him and tearing him apart. It took so long for the screaming to stop.   All that remained was a red scaled Dragonborn berserker from the northern continent of Lokkheimer, a ranger they had just met and knew little about, and Maive. These three saw a gap in the gnoll ambush and ran for it, leaving their two companions behind to be consumed. After cutting down a handful of gnolls they broke through the line and escaped. The berserker, Folror, was never the same. She would twitch and shake at night, wake up screaming about the ambush. One day she wandered off in a city and Maive never saw her again. The ranger parted ways with the group blaming the dead cleric for not noticing the ambush. And Maive was alone.   Over the next few years she did odd jobs as a body guard or bouncer, nothing to dangerous, nothing that would get her or others killed. One day she was guarding a trade caravan to Galla, the capital city of the Kuddo region of the Orc Domain. Half way she linked up with a group of mercenaries who were there for extra security. These mercenaries were from a company called Forever Bound by Iron. After the job was done, one of the mercs offered her a job, said they could use her level headed and cautious approach. Seeing no reason not to Maive joined.   Since then she has been with Forever Bound by Iron. She quickly rose to the rank of Lieutenant but refuses to be made a captain. She says she likes were she is, it lets her keep an eye on the new mercs, make sure they are not biting off more than they can chew.
