Mykal Mykalli
His Majesty, King Mykal Mykalli
Mykal Mykalli was the Lord Defender of the Kingdom of Imesse and eventually King of Imesse, and the first King of the Mykalli Dynasty.
Mykal was the boyhood friend of King Jerim am Ohnni and was named Defender of the Realm upon his crowning in 57 AF. Mykal was easily the most powerful and influential man in the Kingdom after the King for more than 20 years. Jerim died of a fever in 57 AF, and his son Jerim II am Ohnni took the throne at the age of 16. One of Jerim's first acts as King was to make Mykal Lord Chancellor as well as Lord Defender. Less than three years after being crowned King, Jerim II was killed hunting giant bears in the far north. His younger brother, Mellar II am Ohnni was crowned King and Mykal retained his titles and positions with the new King.
Within weeks of officially burying his brother, Mellar II took ill and was bed-ridden for several months. He eventually recovered but his health was never strong again. At the age of 19, Mellar II took ill again and died of a fever in the fall of 79 AF.
Neither Jerim II nor Mellar II had children, and the line of Ohnni had withered away over the preceeding generations. Mykal nominated himself as the new King, and his ascension was acknowledged by the nobles of Imesse who happened to be on hand at the time. This noble acceptance of Mykal as King was by no means universal, as the only nobles to be on hand at the time of Mellar II's passing were those whose lands lay close to Northridge. Most noble families in the south hadn't even heard of the death of Mellar II by the time Mykal was crowned King of Imesse.
Mykal married late, and had one son named Url am Mykalli by the time he was crowned King, who was two years old. Mykal's rule as King was troubled by much discontent and resentment in the south, and much distrust and jealousy in the north. At the age of 49, Mykal died of an appearant stroke while bathing at Northridge. His only son, Url, was only 7 years old.
