River Hulk

The Hulk design of ships was an innovation that first emerged on the western Caldar River, specifically in the City of Jemptal around 200 AF.  Since that time, it has spread east rapidly, and is now the dominant design for multi-purpose (trade and military) usage.  Larger, deeper draft design modification have been adopted in the coastal areas where new ship construction is ongoing, especially in cities like City of Len Doa, City of Grenwich, Solir, and City of Aramor.   A particularly successful design for coastal ocean-going trade and deep river access, as the ship is capable of both oar and sail propulsion.  Cargo capacities of as much as 800 tons and an ability to defend the ship from attack while underway are obvious attractions to the design, as is the design's ability to add flexibility to the ship's function in short notice.
