Dagmite
The people of the Dagmit
The predominant ethnic group in the Dagmit region are the Dagmites, although there is a considerable diversity within this categorization due to Dagmit's geographical location and historical circumstances. Many Dagmites are descendants of diverse tribes who settled in the marshlands, river valleys, and coastal areas of the region, resulting in a rich cultural tapestry.
There are two primary sub-ethnicities within the Dagmites - the Marshlanders and the Sothainfolk. The Marshlanders are typically found in the inner marshlands of Dagmit, traditionally living off fishing and harvesting the bountiful wetland resources. The Sothainfolk, named after the Sothain River, are primarily settled along the river banks and are known for their expertise in river navigation and trading.
Intermingling and intermarriage over centuries have created a blending of these sub-ethnicities, although regional cultural practices and dialects often retain their distinct identity.
There is also a significant presence of Namorians in the region, particularly in Fendil , the administrative capital, and other major settlements. Over time, Namorians have intermarried with Dagmites, leading to a sub-group often referred to as Dagmorian, known for blending elements of both cultures.
Close to the western border of Dagmit, some influence from the Near Mundalodem ethnicity can be observed, particularly in the areas of dialect, clothing, and food. Known as the Dagmundal, these people retain elements from both cultures while carving out a unique identity.
