Sarasgard, the eldest son of Kurgan, ascended to the throne of The Great Plains in the year 342RE, following the death of his father. Unlike his predecessor, Sarasgard embraced a different approach to leadership, recognizing that his father's brutal tactics had instilled fear in his supposed allies and ultimately led to their betrayal. He sought to create an atmosphere of loyalty and justice, striving to convince friends and former adversaries alike that Theron would not be the last territory to succumb to the Namorian invaders.
Respecting the neutrality of the neighbouring Theronite Kingdoms, Sarasgard refrained from forging direct alliances but instead appealed to lands far and wide on the continent for support. His promises of a better future under his rule attracted displaced nobles and commoners from various regions who flocked to join his cause. Sarasgard welcomed all who were willing to fight and formed numerous armies, some composed entirely of foreigners. While he harboured long-term plans to reunite the thrones and place his half-brother, Rowan, the true heir to a united Theron, on the throne, his immediate focus lay on inciting dissent and expelling the Namorian invaders.
Sarasgard actively encouraged royalist rebels and revolutionaries who were dissatisfied with the oppressive Namorian puppet regime in West Theron. His support for the rebels garnered sympathy and support from across the continent. However, the Republic's determination exceeded Sarasgard's expectations. Instead of a gradual withdrawal, they reinforced the province with General Kaelus, a brutal figure known for his ruthless suppression of rebellions. Kaelus, affiliated with the Slavers Guild and harbouring disdain for foreigners, unleashed harsh punishments that further fuelled rebellion and garnered international condemnation.
The Namorian "liberation" of West Theron devolved into a full-blown occupation, marked by indiscriminate destruction and merciless treatment of dissenters. Unfazed by the atrocities committed, Kaelus sought to eradicate sedition within the Central Plains, perceiving it as the heart of rebellion. His actions hardened the resolve of those fighting against him and motivated additional support to arrive in Theron to combat the wanton destruction and enslavement inflicted upon the populace.
Sarasgard faced the formidable challenge of uniting disparate factions, bolstering morale, and countering the iron grip of the Namorians and their ruthless general.
