Lich
Undead
Liches are elite necromancers who have resorted to unlife as a means of immorality. They retain their personalities and intelligence, while gaining the advantages of an undead. As part of their transformation, they trap their soul in a container or vessel called a phylactery. As long as the phylactery survives, so do they. Once transformed, they often seclude themselves in secret laboratories, libraries, or dark treasure hoards. There they spend centuries reading forbidden tomes, twisting curses, and crafting profane artifacts.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The condition of a liches body depends on the individual. Some remain “fresh” like a zombie, others are mummified alive. Ancient liches’ bodies typically turn to dust over the course of a millennia, leaving behind a twisted or mutated skeletal thing.
Ecology and Habitats
Liches are found on the thrones of grandiose monuments to their supreme evilness. These dungeons usually have suitably ostentatious names, and are well off the beaten path.
Behaviour
Liches are driven by the need to consume knowledge and amass power. When they are confronted in their homes, they will stop at nothing to protect their research and themselves.
