Vampyr

Living Dead

Vampyrs are a truly classic monster of myth and legend. These are cursed beings, doomed to an eternal living death. Though they share the same strengths and weaknesses of the undead, they fully retain their intelligence, personality, and physical youth at the time of their ascension. In exchange for these dark gifts, they must forsake the sun and any semblance of a mortal life. They have an insatiable thirst for the blood of intelligent species, especially their own. An age ago, there was a plague of these fiends that swept across Tienthylandria in a Red Crusade. Legend has it that all of the gods and devils of the Realm converged on the mortal plane, joining forces to beat back the Sanguine Legion. They won the war, and the vampyr went extinct. Today, the only evidence of their existence are rare but tainted artifacts. Weapons and armor that were once soaked in so much vampyr blood, they retained an echo of the red curse. Wear enough of it, and you might experience their power…

Basic Information

Anatomy

Undead Creature
Vampyrs share the same weaknesses as all undead creatures.
Vampyr Physiology
Almost any living species can be cursed into a vampyr, though they were almost exclusively from members of the artisan races. Though they retain their physical appearance, which can be changed at will once they’ve mastered shapeshifting, vampyr physiology is distinctly different. Whether you were human, elf, dwarf, or any other race, once the change is complete you are a vampyr through-and-through.

Ecology and Habitats

Vampyrs were often found in major population centers, amidst their food source. There they would form covens, and interweave themselves into city politics and intrigue. Elder vampires who had the means to sustain and control their own flock would seclude themselves in dark citadels in the mountains near mortal settlements.

Behaviour

What few records remain from the vampyr hunters of the era tell us that vampyrs were wickedly intelligent creatures, but always slaves to their thirst. They were villains to the core and value deception, cunning, and cruelty. They loved to hunt, and coveted enemies who could give them a fair fight. When cornered or beaten, they were absolutely sinister in the pursuit of revenge. When defeated and faced with destruction, they were quick to strike a bargain.
