Salamonis

Salamonis is a solid and ancient city built before the War in northwestern Allansia next to the Forest of Yore. A silver vein runs underneath the city. Salamonis is located on the banks of the Whitewater River; it is the most powerful city-state in Allansia.   Salamonis has long been a seat of learning and is arguably foremost in this respect on the continent of Allansia. The famous Titan Square sits the Hall of Learning, home to the greatest collection of books and tomes in all of the lands. The city is surrounded by a large wall, with five distinct gates.   Currently, Salamonis is ruled by King Solomon V, a self-proclaimed ruler of Allansia like his forefathers before him, but a fair and yet lazy one at that.

Life in the City

The people of Salamonis are cultured and friendly, and adventurers flock to the White City yearning to earn heroic deeds of themselves. By the current law, citizens and visitors are not allowed to carry or bear arms while in the city; weapons may only be traded at the White Bazaar, and even all trades must be done under a Merchant's Permit. The absence of a blacksmith in the city is also proof of this law.   The city is divided into four districts known as Quarters, distinguished by their housing and general standard of living.   The Peoples Quarters houses the majority of Salamonis's citizens and is home to many Inns, Taverns, Gambling Dens, whorehouses, warehouses, and squatters. Although the main streets are safe, there are still crime in the darker alleyways for those unfortunate enough to get themselves caught within them.   Towards the southern side of the city lies the Temple Quarters. The Temple of the Eighth stands proudly amidst yellow-roofed houses in this area, where gods of different faith are worshipped under a single building. Healers and general stores are set up around the fringes of this quarters, due to the demand from travellers and pilgrims seeking such services.   Anyone in Salamonis can tell you that when you see the red-roofed buildings, you are in the Artisan Quarters, home of the many skilled craftsmen and guilds making a living in this area. The famous Halls of Learning is located in this quarters, along the White Bazaar and the middle class citizens.   The Nobles Quarters is the richest neighborhood district in the east that exudes opulence, with its imposingly clean cobblestone streets, and meticulously maintained landscape, each marbled purple-roofed building contains wealth and power to the city's elite. Security is paramount, with guards patrolling the streets and heightening this quarter with social hierarchy and ostentatious grandeur.

Under the City

The City-Watch has been attempting, unsuccessfully, to find traces and clues of the Undercity for years - rumors of a whole sprawling civilisation of crooks and underlife that is located geographically underneath Salamonis itself.

Politics and Factions

  City-Watch
Operating from the Royal Guard Barracks, the City-Watch is a reputable guard consisting of several hundreds of able-bodied men and women under the orders of Horrin Halfhand. Horrin is a no nonsense man and does things by the book, that is, above the table. He is strict and persistent, and criminals that find their way into his private office will always spill the beans. His character and leadership is often praised as the defining reason the City-Watch is so successful in maintaining order in Salamonis.   The Royal Mint
The Royal Mint serves as the city's Bank and Tax-Department, where all citizens and visitors are to duly pay their taxes, in which no one understands how the amount is often derived. The Mint sends Hawthorne, a pesky short old man who carries a tall box everywhere he goes. Citizens are fearful of Hawthorne, otherwise known infamously as The Collector. Hawthorne travels with his hounds and guards, but can look the otherway, under specific circumstances.
