Hallowir’s Watch was the old
Summerling garrison fort, situated northeast of the town of
Seowyn's Crossing and south of the Valley of the Subtle Arts. Roads from the great cities of
Estwald and
Calenmar in the east came west to the fort and to the
Universitas Magesterium in the valley. During the
Second Witching War, the mages of the Universitas destroyed their valley, letting in the sea and creating the
Lake of Lost Memory. As salt sea water soaked the previous dry ground around the new lake, salt was washed around the Fort by mountain streams, creating the
Foulweed Fens. The foundations of Hallowir’s Watch were undermined, causing sections to fall. When the
Goblinoids of
Gristamere attacked, they were easily able to break the fort in siege. The surviving soldiers retreated, joined reinforcements, and stopped the goblins at the
Battle of Seowyn's Crossing.
Today, Hallowir’s Watch is a foul, deserted place, sometimes taken over by
Bullywugs,
Kobolds, or even goblins as a staging area for their mischief. Inevitably,
Adventurers or soldiers will rout out the menace, but the prospect of rebuilding the Watch seems unlikely. The new garrison at
Road's End to the west of Seowyn’s Crossing has replaced it.
