New Year

The festival of New Year is celebrated on Jada 1, when both the moons of Tol, Davron and Kassyle, are new, leaving the skies of Tol is great darkness. Because of this great darkness, many creatures that fear the light come out on this night. As the night is holy to the god Oldorin of The Twelve, many feel that death is very powerful on this night as well. In the traditions of many towns, Oldorin walks the streets at midnight, and many children dare each other to spy on him.

It is customary for many of the people of Summerlund to gather in their local churches for services throughout the night. They hang frightful masks on the doors of their houses to scare would-be invaders away, and they make many sweet treats to occupy children during the long night of fear. The following day is called Winterbright, and, while it is still holy to Oldorin, it is more in keeping with his office as a god of Fate.
