Winterbright

The festival of Winterbright is widely celebrated in Summerlund, though it has spread throughout the Seven Kingdoms. After the terrors of New Year, families gather and exchange gifts. Towns often sponsor special festival markets, allowing merchants to sell goods in lighted booths in the town square. Warm mulled wine flows freely, and many lords and kings hold special feasts of great extravagance.   This time is still sacred to Oldorin of The Twelve, but most people feel that this is a day of Fate after a night of Death. They seek out oracles to speak prophecies at their gatherings, or a family's matriarch or patriarch will tell fortunes using Tarokka or another traditional fortune-telling tool. Vistani who possess the gift of foresight are honored guests on Winterbright.   There are legends in some lands that Oldorin, having visited various places in his hooded cloak on New Year's Eve, travels in a more comely form on New Year's Day, leaving gifts for children whom he felt seemed particularly good. This form of Oldorin, Father Fate, is a beloved figure in Summerlund folk stories.
