Vedalken

The Vedalken are a secretive race native to the continent of Keshwan. They make their homes in underwater ruins left behind by The Rending . Their forebears were common Humans of Falwyth, but they refused to follow the wishes of the Tiefling lords in the War of Ashes . They moved south, away from their kingdom, and sought aid and refuge from the Dragonborn of Azmartheon. The Dragonborn tried to assist them, but they were already embroiled in conflict. When it became clear these refugees wouldn’t fight alongside them in the war, they largely turned their back. Abandoned, these refugees sought a place to avoid conflict altogether. When The Rending happened, they prayed for deliverance, and deliverance came to them in a strange way.
The changing magics of The Rending mysteriously spared the majority of these refugees, transforming them into the blue-skinned, semi-amphibious forms they now possess. They found many ruined cities of Falwyth underwater, and used magic to sustain air within them, making them secret homes under the very noses of the Sorcerer-Kings that now ruled broken Falwyth. A mysterious entity called the Sea Tyrant revealed itself to them, showing that it had manipulated the changing magics of The Rending for them, and they began to venerate it, not as a deity, but as a force that they possess respect for. Many vedalken venerate nature as druids, and some others form pacts with the Sea Tyrant for magic.
Left to their own devices in their undersea cities, the Vedalken began to explore what had caused the war that had led to their transformation. Their philosophers came to believe that it was imperfections in the rulers and people of both Falwyth and Azmartheon that had led to conflict, and they began to strive to find perfection in everything they do. Now, it is their driving goal in existence, to achieve perfection of the self and of their society.
