Waterdeep, also known as the City of Splendors or the Crown of the North, is the most important and influential city in all Faerûn. It is a truly marvelous cosmopolitan city of great culture that attracts the most talented artisans, artists, and scholars from across the Realms, as well as a commercial hub for financial interests along the coast and beyond.

Modifications and precisions to the actual lore include:
1450 after the Great War:

The Xanathar Syndicate (later known as Xanathar's Guild), led by the beholder Xanathar himself, chases the last members of the Shadow thieve's guild outside the walls of Waterdeep with the help of Masked Lady, The . The thieves started anew in Athkatla but never forgot their home, promising to one day take it back.

1495 after the Great War:

Criella , helped by the Golden Company , leads an assault against the Xanathar Syndicate, during which the head members of the Syndicate, as well as some figures from the Gloomcloaks of Reovera , are eliminated directly within the lair of the Xanathar. The Athkatla's Thieves Guild claims the city as its own and reinstates itself as ''Waterdeep's Thieves' Guild''.
