Andaxius’ Domain

This region of the savage lands was controlled by the white dragon Andaxius.   Andaxius controlled this area for many centuries with few willing to challenge his rulership. While this was partially down to Andaxius’ power it was also due to the fact that this frigid wasteland isn’t a particularly desirable domain.

Geography

The Domainis a land of ice, and snow, with freezing winds blowing over ther plains and through the valleys. Most creatures are unable to suvive in the northern half of the region, leaving it under the control of beasts and giants.
Central Region
At the center of what Andaxius claimed is the Unmelting lake. Although fed by several ice cold rivers the waters of the lake are warm, with an abundance of fish. Despite this a thick layer of ice covers the entire lake. The communities that have grown up beside the lake use sleighs to cross the ice and cut holes in it in order to fish. The holes close over within half a day making fishing a long and cold process. Legend has it that Andaxius created the ice over the lake as the sight of the warm waters offended him.   The villages by the lake are made up of an odd assortment of people, with goblins, orcs, gnomes, kobolds, and humans living together. Most tend to live in clusters of their own kind but the constant threat of Andaxius led to a greater degree of tolerance than might be found elsewhere. Since The Fall things have become more strained, though bloodshed has mostly been avoided. Without Andaxius forces from the neighbouring regions have been eyeing the lake and it is only a matter of time before one tries to claim it.
Northern Region
The Dragon Peaks
North of the lake are the three dragon peaks. These large mountains are believed to where Andaxius made his layer. The exact location the dragon's lair (and his hoard) is unclear as with typical draconic paranoia Andaxius took great pains to conceal it. THis proved easier than it was for other dragons as the regular snow storms and thick cloud allowed Andaxius to emerge unseen (when he could be bothered to leave his lair at all).   The mountains themselves are steep and coated in ice and snow making climbing them difficult. As if the terrain wasn't enough of hazard, the mountains and the surrounding region are inhabitated by a kind of ogre which have thick white fur to protect them from the cold.   Frost Reaver Cove
Further to the north-west is the infamous Frost Reaver Cove. This is home to a group of frost giants that were kicked out of the plains and now survive by launching raids along the northern and western coasts. These marauders sometimes make their way as far south as the Kingdom of Caresnas where there immense size makes them nearly nearly invincible.   The cove provides protection from the worst of the storms and the currents help prevent an attack by sea. While the currents are predicatable they guide ships away from the cove and onto the jagged rocks of the encircling cliffs. Only the strength of giant rowers seems to be enough to overcome these currents and gain entry to the cove. The cove was protected from an assault by land by an agreement with Andaxius. Under this agreement the giants were protected as long as they paid tribute and provided a gift each time Andaxius dispatched a foe. Since The Fall, the giants have built up their defences in anticipation of an attack by their kin.
Eastern Region
Moving to the east and across the Deira river are the Kephian Snowplains. This region is controlled by the Kephira, a group of frost giants who are glorying the freedom afforded them since The Fall. Few others desire this expanse of snow, ice and rock and the only true threat is their kin in Frost Reaver Cove. Even this threat is of little importance as the reavers do not have the strength to attack the central stronghold of Kephira fortress.
Southern Region
To the south are the steaming peaks. These mountains emit a constant steam as the rain and snow that fall here are boiled away. The heat comes from deep within the mountains where pools of boiling rock bubble away. These mountains are home to numerous tribes of kobolds who toil away extracting gems and creating gifts for their master, Andaxius. The news of The Fall doesn't seem to have reached the kobolds who continue to send tribute down the Trallid Flow. Those living by the Unmelting lake have been keeping the tribute for themselves for years. No-one seems inclined to let the kobolds know they are now technically free.
Western Region
The western side of the domain is dominated by the wormfields. Home to immense centipede like creatures it is considered too dangerous to enter by all except for giants and dragons. The giants occassionally venture into this area to capture and tame the iceworms. Andaxius would enter the fields when he wanted to have one of the worms as a snack.

Since The Fall
Since the defeat of Andaxius this region has become both more and less dangerous. While the denizens no longer have to worry about an enormous dragon dropping down on them, the different factions are now free to compete for the best land, and outside forces are taking an interest in the area.
Adjacent powers
There are three forces eyeing this region. The first is Rigel Fearshroud in the east who sees expansion here to be an easy way to expand his territory. To the southeast are the hobgoblin armies of the Unstoppable Force who launch expeditions into the snow plains and mountains in order to capture useful beasts. Finally there are the tribes of the Hgtoha who are still recovering from being driven down past the Barrier Mountains.
