Government

The government of Invitus Rán consists of elected officials who represent a particular class of people as well as their occupation within the city.  These representatives are known as the Consulate, and they vote on all decisions and laws that govern the control and direction of the station.  The Consulate focuses primarily on city law, infrastructure maintenance, import/export tariffs, ship dock rights, etc.  The list of duties for each Consulate member also pertains to the individuals in certain communities who elected them to their position.  For example, if a mill worker gets elected to the Consulate seat that deals with industrial manufactory, they are expected to push the agenda of the individuals who voted them into office.  If the voters wanted better working conditions, it would that members job to persuade and push for workers rights as well as enact changes to established systems should such changes need to be made.     The Consulate has many seated members with differing world views and come from all walks of life.  Their are limiters on what a member of the Consulate can and can't do.  Consulate members can't enforce a law that has not been voted upon by the other Consulate members, and in order to pass a bill into law, it requires a 4/5ths majority vote.  Consulate members are also unable to set up any form of organized militia without the full consensus and approval of every member.  Ergo, the city has no policing force.
