Session 14 - Old Friends and New Enemies
General Summary

Well we finally are up out of that hole in the ground, Necropolis, I think that was its name. I generally like underground when it is warm and dry. Well dry was fine down there, but it was no gnome hole full of cheery light and laughter. I think we will have to go to Lugdunum next although it makes me very afraid. Saral and Thiala did not remember much about how they were captured, but otherwise seem ok. Saral plans on going straight back to The Green Company to report; Thiala and the elves plan on going back to Nemasus. I am not sure what is happening between Kleeck, Hassan and Thiala. The three of them were fascinated by the floor mosaic with all its light and dark colored circles and pattern. I guess such things are important to those who rely so deeply on magic. I was ready to be out in the woods sooner though! I think the boys (I suppose I should call them men, but Kleeck is so naive sometimes) both find Thiala fascinating, and as a result they kind of trip over each other around her. If we split off to go to Lugdunum I will see if I can get Saral to go with Thiala first to make sure she does not find more trouble. At least not right away. We decided to stick together for tonight anyhow. Although it was late, after we got to the surface we marched back to healthier forests with the elves, Thiala, Saral and Erky before making camp. Hassan is such a city boy; I think he was trying to cheer us as we walked (noise is not the way in the woods at night!) but he was still too injured to play well. Still he played through the evening walk. It was rather painful to hear, but I guess it scared anything malicious away as we had no trouble traveling other than his playing. Hopefully, it kept his mind of his wounds. XI Martius, AUC MMCIII
We set off this morning due west towards the river and my childhood friend Cedrus Iccius Crispus’s house. The others headed back towards Nemasus. Saral promised to keep an eye on them for a while. Hopefully, they will have an uneventful journey; hopefully, we all will Ha! We headed across the Westwood and the morning was uneventful travel. Founds some lovely late dried bilberries and fish for lunch, nice to have fresh food for a change although I would not have stopped to fish if Hassan had not been so grumbly. He and Bandua are much happier for being above ground. It seems strange that a dwarf would so dislike any underground, but with that place I do understand! Having never herd of it I wonder if the entrance was something new or shifted, giving how that cobra headed man, Ssothiss, could shift between locations. The afternoons’ journey was not so kind. We were following the path, and although I had asked directions of one of the wee folk, something went awry. Despite having grown up here I found we were not on the correct path. Just as I was realizing this, a Phase Spider appeared right in front of Kleeck! He squawked and attacked but such beasts are tough, not so much in armament as it just takes a lot to squash a 6-foot spider that can zip between reality. It bit Kleeck badly and slipped next to Hassan biting him as well. Bandua attacked with a fair bit of success and it seemed dead, but then it popped out again. We did not think it was gone completely; the woods felt too strange. Perhaps there was another around? The fight just did not seem over somehow. So, we clustered together and waited, sure enough it popped back in and attacked again. We eventually, well Bandua with a little help from Mkali did it in. It was quite a battel for one spider. Perhaps it had some sort of glamor on that part of the woods because after we displaced it I knew exactly where I was, I could see the lights of the Iccius home so guided us up to their yard feeling very relieved to see they were still in residence. I was not looking forward to scrounging for boat scraps to cross the river! I called out to Piscus, Lia and Crispus. Crispus answered at the window, he was very surprised to see me and very welcoming. Seems it has been a long time since they have had visitors to remind them of the good times. It has been hard the last five years; they may have to move as Piscus is not well and there is no local market for fish and carvings anymore. A far cry from the carefree fishing days of our youth! Lia is adamant that we should not cross the river, that there is doom that way. I heartily agree but feel we must do so. I am guessing that Kleeck feels called to travel that way. Hassan is ever compassionate in his way. I had forgotten I had not told them that my folks vanished with Lugdunum; I am afraid it was rather a shock to my traveling companions. Much less so to Crispus, Piscus and Lia, as they probably saw mama and father on their way that last time. Bandua, knows of course, part of why he took me "in" so to speak I healed him and in his way, he offered shelter and healing in those first hard months. Old news now and not something I really want to have long discussions about. Crispus seemed to understand; old friendship is that way, I guess. He tried to turn the conversation to how he may go join the army. Just as dangerous a plan as ours I suspect. I wish him well and good fortune. I think he needs to get his folks somewhere safer for sure. Lia had more than enough embarrassing tails to keep us all distracted over dinner. Kleeck did what he could to ease Piscus’s pain. I hope they can find somewhere after for a time. Crispus will take us across the river in the morning. If the land starts going dead again as it did around that Necropolis, I will have to tell Ficus to stay behind. Perhaps I should ask Crispus if he saw any dead spots the last time, he crossed the river, and when the last time he was across the river was! But not a question to ask with Lia around.
