Nayaena

Nayaena Theme:

"Your feet are on solid ice, but it feels like you're falling. Even when barefoot, the ice feels warm to skin. The point where the horizon meets the sky calls to you. Your own face beckons for conversation, but you dare not look. You must not look."
— Logs of Tenebraum, Explorer of Ilyena's Librarians
The Ice Mirror is a frozen sheet shrouded in mystery and madness, where its reflections reveal truths beyond mortal comprehension. It's said that those who spend an extended amount of time there lose their minds, falling prey to the knowledge and horrors that lurk within. The city of Nayaena, known as "The Mad City," is inhabited by those who have succumbed to The Ice Mirror's influence, and often greet outsiders with hostility. Skilled scryers have reported groups of mages within a castle (pictured above), casting and carving mysterious runes for unknown spells. Those who have gazed too long into the castle's depths do so at their own peril, for the denizens begin to gaze back at them with unknowable intent, driving even the most stalwart of mages to the brink of madness, even from afar.
Portal of Nayaena
At Nayaena, there exists a portal that leads to the Rings of Ilyena, where travelers are promptly taken to an asylum for a mandatory mental health evaluation. It is believed that the veil between this world and other planes is tenuous in Nayaena. As such, only those who are truly desperate come to this place in search of answers or to seek refuge.
The Great Hall of Nayaena
by coz
"Those of us with the sharpest senses fell to the madness first. I've only lasted as long as I have because I have gouged out my own eyes. Don't laugh. Don't laugh."
— Logs of Tenebraum, Explorer of Ilyena's Librarians
Painting of the Great Hall of Nayaena, by Tenebraum
by Isa Ly
After Tenebraum blinded himself, he was able to suddenly create hyper-realistic paintings despite no previous known aptitude for the arts. This delusional painting (above) was drawn by Tenebraum himself, claiming that it's undersea images was an accurate portrayal of the interior of Castle Nayaena. The painting was found amongst his belongings in a camp just outside of the castle.

This is Tenebraum's most recent and final paintings, found amongst what appears to be his shredded clothing, dented armor, and rusted weaponry at his last known location on The Ice Mirror. His body has not been found, though Ilyena's Guildmasters have marked him as deceased.
