Running this Character
So you want to play as Alls in some TTRPG (table top role playing game)? I don't blame you. I can help you make a character sheet for D&D and Pathfinder. But there are a few house keeping things we need to go over.
For the D&D... the character sheet that was used is from D&D fifth edition before the 2024 release. So the information will be out of date. So you will need to update the character sheet for the lastest verison. I will also call out information that comes from from D&D books. I will also link to the books on Amaon.
For Patherfinder... I will using Patherfinder second edition. It will also not be the remaster revision. I didn't know that was a thing until just now.
Dungeons and Dragons
Inspiration
Alls Uchdt is based on
Zack Fair. So what class in D&D is Zack? Game Rant has an article that goes over all of the main characters in the orginal Final Fantasy 7. One of these characters is
Cloud Strife. In the artcle Game Rant classes Cloud as an Eldritch Knight Fighter. Since Cloud thinks that he is Zack I am going to say that Zack is he same class.
Now what about alignment? I would Zack the alignment of Lawful Good. He does the right thing because it is the right thing. He also follows the law to the letter and believes in Shrina. In my mind this makes Zack a more Lawful character.
Race
Alls is a
Black Dragon how takes the form of a human. This gives a options. We could make Alls a dragonborn or a human with dragon feats. Let's see what Alls will be getting as both or either.
Dragonborn
In D&D the Dragonborn were made to be slaves to the dragons. They have dragon-like features. These people are afread of the dragons while having a dragon's hide. They are also an uncommon race. When they walk by people will look at them. As a Dragonborn Alls will be getting:
- Ability Score Increase: Strength gets a plus two and charisma gets a plus one
- Age: 80 years
- Size: Medium
- Speed: Walking speed is thirty feet
- Languages: Common and Draconic
With these traits with a more aged character. Dragonborn are fully mature a the age of fifteen. I think that is fun triva from the book. They are a normal size with a normal walk. Other traits that the Dragonborn have are:
- Draconic Ancestry
- Breath Weapon
- Damage Resistance
Draconic Ancestry let's us pick what kind of dragon. Alls is a Black Dragon, so the ancestry will be black. Since he is a Black Dragonborn the breath weapon will be acid. The damage resistance will be acid as well.
Human
The most basic race in fiction is the human. We need humans in fiction to highlight the magic. But Alls is a dragon, which makes this fun. We will also be using variant humans. This is because I like variant humans. What are the basic human traits that Alls will be getting?
- Age: 100 years
- Size: Medium
- Speed: Walking speed of thirty feet
- Languages: Common and one other
The other language that Alls will be picking is Draconic. This is because he is a Black Dragon. This also gives him a basic speed and size. Now for the variant part of variant humans.
- Ability Score Increase: Boost two skills by one
- Skills: Pick a skill to become proficient
- Feat: Gift of the Chromatic Dragon (black)
For Alls ability you will be picking strength and dexterity. For the skill pick athletic. This is because Alls likes working out. He is a real gym bro.
Background
The best choice might be the Solider background. Another background could be the City Watch or Folk Hero. Either way the background that Alls will have needs to be a more military background. Let's take a look at each background.
Solider
The Solider only knows war. They have trained since they were children. This makes them skilled fighters. As a Solider Alls will be getting:
- Skills: Athletics and intimidation
- Tools: Game set and land vehcles
- Equipment: An insignia, a trophy, dice or cards, a set of common clothes, and ten pieces gold
The insignia will have the rank infantry or officer. The trophy can be a dagger. As for the game set, a set of dice will do. The Solider, like all backgrounds, has a feature. The feature for the Solider is called Military Rank. This feature let's him borrow horses from the army. It also makes it so troopers will follow him.
Folk Hero
The folk hero tends to dream of being a hero. You are thought to of as a hero in your hometown. You or Alls will try to help anyone. Anything to be the hero. Alls will be getting:
- Skills: Animal Handling and Survival
- Tools: Artisan's Tools and land vehicles
- Equipment: Artisan's tools (the ones you picked earlier) a shovel, an iron pot, common clothes, and ten gold pieces
The tools that Alls is picking woodcarver's tools. Because I think Alls is the kind of person that would enjoy wood working. The background feature is called Rustic Hospitality. With this feature Alls can blend in with the common folk. Alls will be able to hide and rest with the commoners. Unless Alls makes them feel endangered. The commoners are also willing to shield Alls from anyone that is looking for him.
There is a table to role for a defining event. This event is what made the character, in this case Alls, a folk hero. On the table there are two tht stand out to me. The first is number five, where Alls would have lead people to fight. The other one is number ten. This one states that he would have just joined the army. So far I think this one is perfect.
City Watch
A member of the local police. Alls would work at keeping peace and protecting the weak. Making a simple hero, with little glory. As a member of the City Watch Alls will be getting:
- Skills: Athletics and insight
- Languages: Pick two
- Equipment: A uniform, badge, horn, manacles, and ten gold pieces
If you are not playing as Dragonborn, you should pick Draconic. The second language will be Elvish or Orc-ish. The horn can be used to call for help. The manacles can be used to arrest people. The uniform would be in the style of the
Black Wing Army, and the badge will have his rank.
The background's feature is called Watcher's Eye. This makes Alls an experienced police officer. This makes Alls more likely to find lawbreakers. Alls will also know where the outpost is at all times. Now that I am looking at this it is not a good fit.
Class
The best class for Alls is the Eldritch Knight Fighter. This is a fighter that can use magic. This makes more sense to me. Alls is a mostly a fighter and wants to hit the bad guys. The spells give more flavor and gives him more use. As a basic fighter Alls will be getting:
- Armor: All armor types and shields
- Weapons: Simple weapons and martial weapons
- Tools: None
- Saving Throws: Strength and Constitution
- Skills: Choose two from Acrobatics, Animal Handling, Athletics, History, Insight, Intimidation, Perception, and Survival
If you pick any background that is not Folk Hero, you will need to pick Athletics and Intimidation. If you have picked Folk Hero then pick Survival and Perception. For weapons Alls will be picking swords. So the Eldritch Knight will be getting a few things.
The main feature that the Eldrith Knight has is spelling casting. Alls will be getting cantrips, spell slots, and the ability to cast spells. Alls gets to learn two wizard cantrips at level three, and another one at level ten. The cantrips that Alls should be getting are Booming Blade, Green-Flame Blade, and Feather Fall. The first two spells are from
Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide and Feather Fall is from the basic rules. As for other spells, these need to be from the wizard class.
The Eldrith Knight will also be able to use Weapon Bond. This will prevent the weapon from going flying. He will also be able to use War Magic at level seven. This will let him use the a spell as a reaction. There are a few other features, but you can read through them in the
Player's Handbook.
Feats
With the optional feat rules a character can pick up to five feats. Feats are used to give flavor to a player's character. Feats are a fun way to add more to a character. It also makes them more unquic.
First, from the Player's Handbook, we have Great Weapon Master. This let's Alls use great or heavy weapons. Second, we have the feat Durable. This will boost Alls constitution by one. Third, is the Sentinel... and let's Alls take on a more tank role.
Fourth, is the feat Mobile. This will boost Alls base movement by ten feet. It also makes his dash better. Alls is a heavy hitter, but he is also fast. This will make him feel like a tank, but also more light and quick. The fifth, and last feat, is Magic Initiate. With Magic Initate you get to pick two cantrips from any class. I would pick Mending from the wizard class, and Longstrider from the bard. You also get a level one spell from any class.
Pathfinder
Concept
The concept of a character can be broken down into their ancestry, background, and class.
Ancestry
You can use a basic human ancestry for Alls. But I don't think that is the best ancestry for Alls and other dragonkin characters in this story. So the best ancestry, I think, should be the Nephilim. This heritage can be found in
Pathfinder: Player Core pages 78 through 81. This is an uncommon ancestry and seems to only be in this Pathfinder book.
To get this heritage you need to pick any ancestry. Since Alls is a dragon and takes the form a dark elf. So the best race to pick for Alls is an elf. As an elf Alls will be getting the following:
- Hit Points: 6
- Size: Medium
- Ability Boosts: Dexterity, Intelligence, and free pick
- Abilitty Flaws: Constitution
- Languages: Common, elven, and one extra per intelligence modifier
- Traits: Elf and humanoid
- Special Ability: Low-Light vision
Then before we look at elven heritages pick the Nephilim heritage. With the heritage picked we need to pick the flavor. There are six different flavors for the Nephilim and we need to pick one that fits Alls. The lineage, or first feat, should be the Grimspawn. This will make Alls a lot harder to kill.
Another good ancestry is Dragonblood. This is the heritage that should be picked, because it makes the character feel more like a dragon. I would make Alls a Horned dragon. This will give him a Primal Tradition and Poison breath.
Background
Alls has a simple background. He started adventuring a lot younger than others. He knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. Alls wanted to proctet people from the start. To Alls the next best step was clear. He wanted to join the military and protect people. That means that the best background is guard.
The guard background will give Alls two ability boosts. One of those abilities needs to be Strength or Charisma. I would pick both because those skills fit who Alls is. He will also be trained in intimidation skill and the Legal Lore skill. He will also get the Quick Coercion skill feat.
Class
Alls is tanky character, that is one reason why he is an elf. I thought it would be funny. Anyways... with all jokes aside. Alls will be a fighter class. As a fighter Alls will be getting the following:
- Key Ability: Strength or Dexterity
- Hit Points: 10 plus the points from race and modifiers
- Expert: Perception
- Saving Throws: Expert in fortitude and reflex and trained in will
- Attacks: Trained in all weapons
- Defenses: Trained in basic armor
- Class: Trained in fighter class
Now we can use our details and feats to round out Alls. Let's take a look at the details now.
Details
Details are ways to make a character different from another character. That way two player can play the same concept but do it differently. The feats that we will be picking should make Alls a rounded tanky fighter.
Ancestry Feats
These are the feats that Alls can get with his ancestry. Level one was already talked about in the ABC's of character concept. But as a reminder Alls is an elf with the nephilim hertage.
- Level 1: Grimspawned or Draconic Aspect, Claw Aspect
- Level 5: Ancestral Longevity
- Level 9: Divine Countermeasures or Dragon's Flight
- Level 13: Avenge Ally
- Level 17: Unwavering Mien
We already talked about the Grimspawned, so there is no need to dig into anymore for now. The Ancestral Longevity will make Alls live a lot longer. Divine countermeasure will make it easier for Alls to defend his friends and party from bad guys. The avenge ally will give Alls an up tick in power when an ally is down. Unwavering mien will make it a little harder to knock him out.
For the Dragonblood Alls we have a few different feats. The first one is Draconic Aspect with the Claw Aspect. Alls can also choose Dragon's Flight. This will let him be able to fly. The player can choice something else to taste.
Class Feats
Fighter sget a bonus feat talked combat flexibility. These extra feats are more for abilities. But since they seem to act like a feat I will put them here. I will call out the combat flexibility.
- Level 1: Vicious Swing
- Level 2: Lunge
- Level 4: Blade Brake
- Level 6: Guardian's Deflection
- Level 8: Blind-Fight
- Level 9: Shatter Defenses
- Level 10: Barreling Charge
- Level 12: Brutal Finish
- Level 14: Cut from the Air
- Level 15: Fearsome Brute
- Level 16: Furious Focus
- Level 18: Opening Stance
- Level 20: Certain Strike
The flexbility feats are 9 and 15. Anyways these traits are suppose to make Alls a frightening fighter. This should also mkae him an even faster fighter. Able to get into a foes face quickly. But I am not sure, because I don't play Pathfinder. But that is okay. Be sure to pick feats that you think fit Alls by skills or theme.
Skill Feats
These are skills that add to the skills of the character. Basic skills that we will be looking to boost are athletics and riding. I will explain more about the feats after. Of course, feel free to pick differently.
- Level 2: Survey Wildlife
- Level 4: Terrain Expertise, Swamp
- Level 6: Armor Assist
- Level 8: Steady Balance
- Level 10: Group Coercion
- Level 12: Streetwise
- Level 14: Wall Jump
- Level 16: Express Rider
- Level 18: Cloud Jump
- Level 20: Rapid Mantel
Alls is proud of being from the country, with that being said he should be trained in survey wildlife. Alls also makes from a swamp-rainforest like place. So terrain expertise in the swamp makes sense.
Alls knows his way around armor and weapons. Because of Alls knowledge he can help his friends get out of their armor. That is why he has the armor assist. Steady balance will make sure Alls doesn't loose his balance while dashing. With group coercion, Alls will be able to strong arm foes.
Streetwise, will make Alls know about the "heartbeat" of his beloved hometown or the city that he lives in. Wall jump will let Alls jump off the walls to dodge attacks or make attacks. Express rider will also make Alls a better rider. This will useful in the wild will traveling.
Cloud jump lets Alls be able to jump from point A to point C. In none mathically terms it lets Alls jump very far. Last but not least, is rapid mantel. This will let Alls pull himself up from ledges and edges.
General Feats
These are feats that can add more skills. Let me show you what I think would be best for Alls.
- Level 3: Cat Fall
- Level 7: Ride
- Level 11: Fast Recovery
- Level 15: Battle Medicine
- Level 19: Kip Up
Cat fall will help Alls not die from all of the jumping that he will be doing. Riding will be helpful, because that is something that he will need to know how to do. Fast recovery will help Alls not die. There is no real healer in
Sürl Drün Söchdt Inntser, so being about to help patch up his friends will be a needed skill. Kip up will let Alls do a flip to get back on his feet.
