Kayal

The origin of kayal is shrouded in mystery, butseems to have coincided with the Emergence of the Unnatural  and, though likely not a creation of Khydar the Unnatural their advent may have been a side effect of Jopha and Astus' folly.   Secretive and deceitful, kayal are humanoid in shape, tall and wiry with black hair, grey skin and onyx eyes. They can easily be mistaken for drow by those unfamiliar with both species. Arrogant, and supremely confident they take offense easily and see deceit as an art form.   Natural users of illusion and shadows, the combination of their skill in misdirection and their arcane abilities could prove a particularly deadly combination to the denizens of Valine, and it is fortunate that kayal have trouble staying on the material plane for long, seemingly drawing their energy from the elemental planes to such a degree that they need to return there regularly.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Though they delight in deception and scheming, kayal have a strong sense of honor.  If caught in a lie or if their deception is uncovered, kayal see it as their duty to serve those that unmasked them for a period as a penance (not for their deception but because they dishonored their adversary by offering a weak deception that was seen through).

Common Etiquette rules

Kayal will work with demihumans that impress them, but see their natural role as one of leadership and are surprised and offended if not simply accepted as a leader. They have a hostile relationship with other genies, but particularly despise jann who they view as weak and a disgrace to genies.
