Jopha the Verdant
Deity of Nature
The androgynously portrayed Jopha is the deity of nature. Most often thought of as a genderless goliath, they are, perhaps, the most widely worshipped of the deities.
Their mentor/pupil-pibling/nephew-spouse/husband relationship with Udros, God of Music is the epitome of the promise, openness and limitless possibilities of of nature and of the arts. Together Jopha and Udros brought the twins Hunia and Mottuna into existence, giving them power over beasts and the hunt on the one hand and of fire and crafting on the other.
Jopha and Astus are two sides of the same coin - life and death, growth and decay, the endless song of nature and the endless silence of rest. When Jopha and Astus combined in an attempt to create the perfect divine being to watch over Valine, they failed and inadvertently created the abomination to nature and to death that is Khydar the Unnatural. This event so shook the confidence of Jopha that they withdrew from the world for centuries, leading to widespread famine, the first great plague and the unprecedented rapid rise and spread of humans across Valine.
The ecological devastation caused lingered for centuries and its effects are visible even today, but Jopha works, only alone now, to fix the damage done by their lengthy grief and absence.
