Port Swinford
Port Swinford on the Mithlerien Island of Bute, two miles west of Wrathsea, overlooks the Kerrowater Estuary.
In 801, a small harbor was constructed to commemorate the community's founding. Ilragorn was the name given to it at the time. Lord Lincoln Swinford of Swinford Castle, which overlooks the harbor, established the settlement to compete with Wrathsea, and Ilragorn was the name of his favorite mount.
In 860, the Duke of Bute obtained Port Swinford after Lincoln Swinford's last descendant died without leaving an heir. Due to the Swinford family's long association with this area of the island, he renamed the village to its current title of Port Swinford. It was only a matter of a few years before boat manufacturing became the prominent local industry.
