Abbadon's Incursion

"Gather round! For I will tell you the tale of the four legends who sacrificed everything to stop the Dark Lord known as Abbadon and the corrupted dragons! It is a long tale but it is one with action, adventure, and passion!" -Stephano, the Bard

In the year 1412, during a small-scale civil war between the Empire and the Haagstad Pact, what seemed to be a peaceful day in the small town of Riversted turned into the first of a large scale disaster. A terrifying red dragon flew over the town and assaulted the village, something that was unheard of in this time. Many were slain and much of the village was ruined, but the dragon was eventually felled by the town guards and one young local fighter named Drew. Seeing his heroism and willingness to aid, the guards told Drew to inform The Veridian Empire in Felwinter to the south. On his journey south, he met young elf girl named Kate who accompanied him on his journey.   On their arrival in Felwinter, they were instructed to speak to, at the time, Paladin Wes. The Paladin was skeptical but open minded. She elicited their help in the Empire's campaign against the Haagstad pact rebels, surviving an ambush and defending Felwinter from an assault. In this assault, Drew was critically wounded, but in some miracle, he survived his injuries and appeared to have obtained Vanguard powers while unconscious. As he, Kate, and Wes returned to Felwinter, they encountered yet another angry dragon, this one white like the snow on the mountains, and a battle followed. The three managed to slay the dragon and returned to Felwinter, where they discovered the High King  was assassinated!   Kate was able to decipher a cryptic message left behind by the assassin and pinpointed it to a faction in Alvaria, her homeland. The High Commander then elicited help from the group to partake a diplomatic mission to Alvaria to understand what happened. Drew, Kate, Wes, and a few other warriors traveled across the sea to Alvaria, where they discovered that the land was controlled by The Alvarian Dominion, the same faction that Kate had connected to the assassination. The group also unveiled the Dominion's motives: to attack the Empire while it is weak. Comming under attack by the Dominion's soldiers, the group managed to escape with the help of a mute paladin named Teddy. Teddy joined the group and they all returned to Felwinter with the unfortunate news.   While Wes and the other soldiers stayed in Felwinter, Drew, Kate, and Teddy sought to get to the bottom of the dragon problem. As they were traveling aimlessly, they encountered another dragon harrowing down on an innocent caravan. As they defeated the dragon, the beast spoke of the entity known as Abbadon, the Dark Lord. Known only as a legend, it was said that Abbadon, a terrible fiend, attempted to ascend to godhood but was struck down and defeated, cast into an isolated demiplane known as the Deep. It was assumed that he would stay there forever, dormant until some intense conflict woke him. It is clear now that he is awake.   The three brave adventurers learned of an individual who knows the most about Abbadon, a dwarf wizard named Prof. Oakmaster who lives in the town of Stahlmill. As they traveled through one of Ironwood's many dark, enchanted forests, they encountered a young Tiefling Druid named Lotus, who then led them to Stahlmill. Coincidentally, she was also Prof. Oakmaster's apprentice and she led the group to him. He told the party of Abbadon's origins and his powers and told the group to seek out an individual named Oryss who lives far on top of the mountains.   Lotus decided to join the party, against her mentor's wishes and the four traveled to where the professor told them to go. Unpin reaching the mountain, where the high altitude and frigid temperature made travel difficult, they found Oryss. Oryss was not a man; he was an enormous and ancient bronze dragon. However, he did not attack the party; Oryss told them about Abbadon and how he was corrupting dragons and turning them against people. Oryss knew this best because his brothers and sisters were being dominated by his power. He told the party how he was present when Abbadon fell and he feels it is his duty to help the party succeed. Thus, he told them how to enter the Deep.   Returning to Felwinter with their new wisdom, Drew, Kate, Teddy, and Lotus sought out Paladin Wes once again. Wes was grateful for the information and allowed them to acquire a method of transportation across the sea to where the entrance to the Deep lies. However, due to the civil war nearing its end, Wes could not follow: it would be only four of them who will enter. They traveled to the mysterious island where Oryss told them to go and found the portal. Looking at each other knowing what they might encounter, the four of them activated the portal and stepped in. And that was the last anyone has heard of the four legends.   However, shortly after this, the reports of dragon attacks have stopped. It is unknown what happened when the four traveled into the Deep, but apparently, they succeeded in stopping Abbadon. Either that, or they failed and Abbadon still has power and is planning something even more sinister than before...
