Sultana Nala Al-Sharaf

"I see what he meant when he told me that you are... unique. Regardless, welcome to the Ivory Palace. Would you like a date?"

Sultana Nala Al-Sharaf

Sultana Nala Al-Sharaf is the daughter and rightful successor to Sultana Laura Al-Sharaf of the Osmad Desert. Before her ascension to the throne, Nala taught herself to be a skilled fighter (as well as some other illicit acts) and could take care of herself. She often found herself in conflict with upholding or going against the traditions of her family. As the only child of the Sultana, the weight on her shoulders to maintain tradition was immense and she often questioned her own ability to carry her people when it became her time to take the throne.   When the Church of the Sun assumed control, Nala, still a princess, fled the city of Bekilk and the Osmad Desert while her mother was captured. Over the next few years, she trained under the blood hunter Wolfsbane, where she learned how to harness their power. For seven years, Nala discretely combated the Church in an effort to try and bring her family back into power. With the emergence of the Eclipse, Nala found her opportunity, and together they secured victory, and Nala became Sultana.   Nala's rule as Sultana marked a radical change in the history of the Sultanate. Thanks to her, the Osmad people experienced a slight cultural shift, as she opened the nation to foreign influences more so than any of her predecessors, and her policies tended to stray from the traditional values of the past. Most people accepted these changes and regarded Nala as one of the greatest leaders of the Sultanate, though the more conservative elements of society are not as content with these changes, and secretly plot her downfall. Nala is faced with the difficult task of managing the nation while ensuring the malcontents cause as little disruption as possible, all while dealing with her own insecurities as a leader.

Personal history

Nala was born into royalty, destined to be Sultana of the Osmad Sultanate . She is the only child of Sultana Laura Al-Sharaf. Throughout her youth, she was taught proper Sultana etiquette while also being taught how to fight and sneak by Master General Nassaire and a blood hunter named Wolfsbane. As it turned out, Nala was exceptionally stealthy and nimble. She learned the fighting style used long ago by agile warriors of the Sultanate, known as the Way of the Dancer; the name comming from the way the warrior, dual wielding scimitars, would spin while swinging their blades, creating a "dance." Nala was exceptionally good at this too.   The young princess often displayed her stealthiness by sneaking out of her room in the palace. On numerous occasions, her mother would host visitors and conduct important meetings completely unaware that Nala was in the same room, listening closely. She would even stowaway when her mother goes on important diplomatic journeys. One occasion took her to the city of Oxfront, where she once again snuck out alone to try and make some new friends in the foreign land. Being naive and unfamiliar with social customs, as well as a series of unfortunate events, Nala found herself in the crowd of troublesome kids who pushed her into a deep pool where she quickly realized she never learned how to swim. Thanks to a hero, she was saved and returned to the scorn of her mother, though this event hardly discouraged Nala from sneaking out again.   At the age of 16, the Sultana decided it was time to arrange potential suitors for her daughter. The princess, however, was not interested in romance at the time. However, Nala knew that this was tradition and tradition is very important in the Sultanate. So Nala begrudgingly went along with her mother's arrangements, eventually deciding that a childhood friend of hers, Salah Saleem, (whom she had not spoke to in years) was to be her husband when she came of age.   Everything was going well until the Church of the Sun took over the Sultanate and Nala was forced to flee for her life. Grabbing what she could, she ran from the palace, leaving her mother and friends behind. She fled northward into the desert and had to endure the scalding heat and blistering sandstorms. Fortunately, she came across a merchant named Rexxus Alexander on the road. Rexxus was also fleeing the Osmad because of the Church and so the princess hitched a ride into the Ironwood Province. Nala departed from Rex and took refuge in the small town of Pavv.   Fortunately, Wolfsbane, who had become her mentor, had evaded capture by the Church and caught up with the Princess in Pavv. After exchanging knowledge of what happened, Nala traveled with Wolfsbane for some time, learning the art and combat style of the blood hunters.   Show Spoiler
Nala made a tough choice and accepted the blessing and curse of lycanthropy through Wolfsbane's Order of Blood Hunters. Surrounded by blood hunters who have embraced this curse, Nala underwent intense training to prepare her for the infecting. When it was time to embrace the curse for herself, the beast manifested inside her as a powerful Weretiger. She used this power to help her defeat the Church, but when it was over, she decided it would be better to not deal with lycanthropy when she became Sultana, and had the affliction removed.
Two years later, she and Wolfsbane returned to the Osmad Desert with a vengeance against the Church. As for Nala, using her sabers, stealth, and her newly adopted blood hunter skillset, she efficiently assassinated a number of Church personnel for five years before she teamed up with The Eclipse in order to stop the oppressive cult.   After the defeat of the Church of the Sun, Nala took her rightful place as Sultana of the Osmad Sultanate. She married her childhood friend, Salah Saleem , shortly after their victory and mothered a pair of twins, Sargon and Miriha  Al-Sharaf. Although her royal duties took precedence, Nala still enjoyed the occasional adventure with her good friends Wolfsbane and Aslyn.

Education

Begining at a young age, Princess Nala was taught in the traditional combat styles of the Osmad Sultanate. The style she chose, the Way of the Dancer, focused on swift dual weapon combat. She learned how to strike with two weapons and gracefully dodge attacks while being quick on her feet. The Princess also learned how to combine sneaky tactics into this fighting style, making her a potentially lethal rogue.   In her late teenage years, she was trained under the blood hunter Wolfsbane, who reinforced the roguish style with blood hunter tactics. Eventually, Nala embraced Wolfsbane's blood hunter order and became one herself, making her tactics all the more lethal with the added crimson rites and powerful hemocraft.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Nala's accomplishments as Sultana brought about a slight cultural shift. She is credited with defeating the Church of the Sun, establishing a royal council to decentralize the government, abolished the death penalty as a form of punishment, and pioneered an alliance with the Veridian Empire.

The Sultana's Wraiths

Before Nala's time, the Sultanate, being a mostly isolationist nation, had little use for an intelligence network. It mostly consisted of scouts and merchants who report tales of their travels to the other nations or nobles within Bekilk discussing the latest market trends. This was one reason why the Church of the Sun's true plans were not discovered until it was too late. As Nala's influence as leader grew (as well as her insecurities), she created the first dedicated intelligence network in the Sultanate. As an expert in infiltration herself, Nala discretely manages the network, sending spies both within and beyond the Sultanate. When she finds something worth investigating, but she herself is too preoccupied to act, Nala sends in her Sand Wraiths. The Wraiths are the Sultana's elite agents, hand picked by Nala herself, each one extremely skilled in infiltration, espionage, and assassination. Only five of them exist currently, and one is conducting a mission outside the Sultanate. The existence of the Wraiths is a well kept secret, only known to the Sultana herself and her closest advisors.
