Ignea

The tribal Ka-Ko-Rae on the continent of Hoarwae are not like most others of their kind in both looks and way of life. This group are natives of the continent and are a lot less developed from a society perspective. Only three tribes are considered part of the Ignea ethnic group, the Goulphen, Kyr and Seraleye.

Appearance:

Just like their counterparts, Ignea have jet black skin that helps them hide perfectly on a cloudy night. But their skin has an even thicker and rougher texture, making them appear more like walking statues. From the cracks and crevices found all along the skin, red glowing light emanates due to the molten lava glowing through their veins. Unlike the Kakorae from Cytal, the Ignea also have hollowed eye sockets and deeper mouth holes that also glow the same shade of red. Along with their shorter height, these tribal beings seem more monstrous than most intelligent species.
"Ignea? Can't say I know much 'bout them. From what I heard from that old Alum sailor, apparently they look like me, but more like a monster. What they trying to say? They saying us Ka-Ko-Rae look like monsters? Tell you what, they certainly thought me a monster after I clobbered them in the street."
— Li-Yah-Fu, Founding member of The Ivory Champions

Naming Traditions:

One way to distinguish an Ignea to a Cytal Kakorae is the names they give themselves. The typical syllable structure is scrapped and instead replaced with names that can also describe their natural environment. Examples include Roots, Drip, Smokey, Dusty, Bloodvine, Petals, Hopper, Dry Leaf and Night Sky.
Charcter Prompt: You find pirates are ransacking the tropical forests of your homeland. Worried for the safety of your people and the fear of angering the volcano, you set on a quest to put an end to the pirates plans.

Customs:

The Ignea are very aware of where they came from and how they came to be. As such they constantly remind themselves through the customs they have. Often living at the base of the volcano their ancestors were born, bowing to the volcano whenever they hear it rumble and using lava in any rituals or ceremonies they deem as important.

Expansion of the Lands:

One ceremony that is known to pirates, sailors and explorers is the expanding of the continent. Where the entire tribe will channel lava from the volcano and lead it to the beaches, allowing it to solidify and expand the continent. It is believed this is done in an attempt to defend against their enemies in the water such as Gillan.

The Journey to Mount Bodeira:

Another ritual that is common amongst the Ignea is the journey to the volcano peak, where young Ignea will have to walk from the beaches to the very peak of the volcano. This journey is a way for the younglings to learn the vital survival skills needed to live on this hostile and ascend into adulthood. Those who do not reach the mouth of Mount Bodeira are left to the hazards of Hoarwae.

Zombie Pruning:

As a way to keep the villages safe, the tribes of Ignea gather their strongest warriors and protectors to prune any Zombie flowers or infected creatures surrounding the settlements. This is a dangerous but vital ritual that must take place otherwise the tribes would cease to exist.

Relations:

Gillan

Seen as the sworn enemy of the Ignea, creatures of the sea sent to destroy the spirit of Mount Bodeira. They will not hesitate to attack on sight.

Lah-Vae

Floating fire skulls of an extinct race of horses that use to live in the mountains. Resserected by the shaman of the tribes, the Lah-Vae and Ignea have a mutual respect for one another.

Other Tribes

Whilst all being the only intelligent natives to the continent, the tribes have very different ways and opinions of living. Conflict between each of the tribes is common but is usually overlooked if there is a larger threat.

Really cool article I love how they incorporate the volcano because it's historical importance to them. It really cool how they make more of a lame mask for them to expand
