Sacaryn Island

The Sinking Island

Climate:

Located at the South entrance to the Sunken Valley, this once lush jungle habitat has been slowly dragged down below the waters surface for the past hundred years. Seasons of flash flooding and the occasional tsunami has created a muggy and humid swamp environment. Walking around this unstable land is nearly impossible with many sailors and pirates avoiding it for good reason.
Only a fool would dare go near that place. It's unstable. The under currents just snatch you up. And good luck trying to survive the countless things trying to kill you in the water.
— Unknown Gillan

Wildlife:

The new environment has forced the local wildlife to adapt. Some like the Sabren died off long ago while others has adpated to become acustomed to the marshy landscape. Sailing around, you'll likely find some of the following plants and creatures.
  • Bare Tree - 20ft swollen tree trunks that have turned a shade of dark grey. Absorbing the abundance of water in the area the bark from these trees are ideal for water breathing potions
  • Sentient Moss Clumps - As plant derbis and other plantlife has been washed away by rain and tidal waves. Clumps have piled up and formed a new kind of lifeform that can be seen bobbing on the surface of water. Constantly on the lookout for new life to collect for itself
  • Traxalan - These flying swamp sharks have drifted from the continent of Hoarwae and found their way into this new swamp land which they defend with ferocity
  • Whipper Whay - Originally found in Saracryn's rivers has now adapted to the murky saltwaters with their scales almost turning jet black

  • History:

According to old reports from the capital city of Eyaton, the island was originally discovered by Sacaryn. Once a sailor, turned pirate he found the island after his ship and crew were caught in a raging storm. Crashing and stranded for weeks before being found by Captain Hoarwae.   During conversations between Birohhal scholars and the people of Wae-Vun it was shared that the Gillan have known of the island for centuries. Using the island itself as a way to trap enemy forces during the Water Crusades due to their knowledge of the submerged catacombs under the island.   In the present, whispers spread among pirate clans about a treasure hidden under the surface of the water. Many suspect it is the bands of the raging storm but no one is certain.
